I find it hard to get my point across to my students, so I want to create an evaluation for them to take home and show their parents. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by "I find it hard to get my point across", Musicman ? If you would elaborate I will try to answer your request.

Hi Musicman,

Have you tried to create a rubric? When you use a rubric (marking graph/chart) it will show where your student is at on a given skill and where they should be.
The following link shows different ones used for elementary students and these are easily modified to fit your needs.

http://www.sites4teachers.com/links/redi...ipline.htm

Each rubric should show/describe what a beginner might do during a first lesson up to what an accomplished student would do with steady & effective practice.

The more you can describe/model to your students what it is they need to do the more likely it is they will practice that. I might also suggest they record their lesson with you, so that they can refer back to it when practicing the skills assigned.

What do you teach them? (Piano, vocal, guitar, etc.)
