One of the most technically accomplished yet imaginative jazz guitarists has a new disc out. Bill Frisell. He remains under the radar because of the wide variety of musics he has covered with no discernible defined style--he plays how the music takes him without imposing himself on it. 50 albums in 32 years, all but 7 being 4-stars or better ('92's Have a Little Faith hit the Big Megillah). As AMG says,"...blends the best elements of rock energy with jazz harmonic sophistication and melodic interpretation." Exactly. You know going in to a Frisell piece that you are going to like some or all of it--one of the best ways to lead somebody new to jazz, to real jazz using the familiar. 9 of 14 tunes on Guitar in the Space Age! are AMG picks to click. Given the nature of this disc and the age of the material, I'll link the original (OLD) with his doing (NEW), with a tasty "Making of..." vid at the end (it puts you right in the time). How about a descriptor first?: http://www.allmusic.com/album/guitar-in-...0002709690
