The already enraged-converted? And about what? My cat has no problem expressing herself verbally and otherwise; the great apes have reasonably sophisticated modes of expression; and somehow the human race struggled by for 15,000 years give or take without rap. What new, fresh purpose does it serve? The difference is the repetitve nature of hiphop beats. Other genres do not repeat the same instrumental phrases as many times or for as long as hiphop. Thus, a rapper is required to maintain the listener's attention long enough for the subtle characteristics of the "beat" to sink in. Other genres, like R&B, often utilize the same types of beats. But with a style like R&B, the beat must change to follow changes in the melody. So the melody becomes the listeners attraction instead. The difference is the repetitve nature of hiphop beats - this is what makes it boring Thus, a rapper is required to maintain the listener's attention long enough for the subtle characteristics of the "beat" to sink in - there are no subtle characteristics - it's just the same beat copied and pasted so it means there are no real dynamics to the music. What you should be striving for is subtle VARIATION in the beat. That would make it more interesting. Hiphop beat makers often incorporate loops or samples that contain some sort of chord or are in a specific key. So repeating the same progression over and over by looping, forces the melody to stay rooted in the same key. Most songs from all genres are rooted in the same key - it's just that hip hop producers generally do not know how to handle chord progressions beyond I and V or even modulation between keys. Modern hiphop has incorporated melodic "hooks" or choruses which are essetially just a section of R&B. Even medieval music contained hooks - they have been around for centuries.

i find Dr.Dre is very good with chord progression from what i hear in his music.....
sure he has the "beats", but he does use real instruments in his songs also, the "beats" just provide the backdrop to the track.... im not refering to Dre's own material, but the material he produces for other artists.
