TOM JONES "long lost suitcase"

the Welshman's third covers set in a row....
I never heard the first one but liked his Gospal set a couple of years ago...
this one goes the route of R+B,Rock, soul and even country...
covers on here from The Rolling Stones..(factory girl)
Old Crow Medicine Show...(raise a ruckus)
Los Lobos...(everybody loves a train)
and....
Gillian Welch...(Elvis Presley blues)
to name a few...
Tom has still got it IMO,
the voice isn't as powerful as it used to be because of his age,
but the warmth and richness still shine through...
look, I wont get this one unless its in a discount bin because I don't
buy full priced albums if theyre covers sets unless its by an artist I truly
love...
a pretty good listen though and it gets a passing mark from me!

from the album:

"Elvis Presley blues"...great live version from "later...with jools"

listened to all of them
thanks
the only one I know is the second one
I think that first one is terrible
makes me not want to hear the original
I went off of Tom when he tried to do some rap
it was horrendous
still love the old stuff though

I went off him for a while when he covered that Prince song "kiss"....woeful stuff!
I forgave him when he recorded "sex bomb" though....

BTW....
heres the original of that first one "Elvis Presley blues" by Gillian Welch....
its a folky-country sort of thing, its not bad at all, must be the way Tom did it maybe???
lots of sad clips in the video of his death, fans mourning his passing etc...song suits it
