Meshuggah "the violent sleep of reason"

Spotiy listen late last night:

Swedish metal band....
no growlers but plenty of screaming at me...
in the words of Neil Young...."its a piece of crap!"

I think the musicianship is pretty good from a technical view, even though the vocals aren't my favorite part of the album, so I wouldn't call it total crap myself, JMO. I can definitely see how this album may not align to everyone's tastes though.

I have learned to be very wary of any band whose name consists of one word beginning with 'M'.

Why is that? I'm just wondering because Meshuggah comes from a Hebrew and/or Yiddish word meaning "Crazy" and that is why the band calls themselves that from what I've read, I guess they think their music is crazy. -shrug-

To be fair, I tend to look sideways at bands for certain reasons though mine aren't the same reasons as yours, I don't think.

I just listened to this album. It's a very redundant album. Almost every song sounds the exact same. The vocals aren't brutal enough for this style of instrumentation. The best part about it is the final track. The final track is the best part of the whole album.

I think the vocals are monotonous and don't really vary much. But based on what I've heard from fans of the band and others who are familiar with their music more than me, their music is fairly same-y, in general. But yeah, I think the vocals could complement the instrumentation better than they do.

My comment was, of course, tongue in cheek - I should have added an appropriate emoticon. It's just that there are a number of bands in the heavy metal genre that I can't stand: Motorhead, Machinehead, Megadeth, Motley Crue (I know that's two words). I know there are otherrs, just can't think of them right now. I'm not too fond of Metallica either, though they are listenable.

Have to agree - just can't listen to these bands either. They all sound the same to me.

I couldn't agree more Ocean! They are a very good metal band and loud and heavy! (by the way, I saw Black Sabbath live two years ago, outstanding!).
