new Mike Oldfield album
#1
I thought this one may be of interest to members, well, Jerome inparticular....
it appears Mike Oldfield has a new one coming out next year (2017)
heres the article from Uncut:

Mike Oldfield has confirmed details about his new album.

the album will be released on January 20th on the Virgin label.

A sequel to the 1975 album Ommadawn, this new record was written, recorded, produced at Oldfield's
home studio in Nassau.
it contains two parts, Ommadawn pt 1 and 2.
Oldfield describes it as "handmade" and includes twenty two instruments including mandolin, guitars,
acoustic bass, bodhran, African drums and tin whistle.

Oldfield says "looking on social media I see that everybodys favourite albums seem to be the first three,
those that are over forty years old, and Ommadawn even moreso than Tubular Bells, I think that is because it
a genuine piece of music as opposed to a production; hands, fingers, fingernails, I didn't have a goal, I was not
trying to please anyone other than myself, it was spontaneous music making, full of life.
so I think a "return to ommadawn" is also a return to my true self"
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

Interesting that Oldfield makes this comment, because I have always found Tubular Bells less satisfying than some of his other works, for this very reason.

Oh I will probably buy this just to make the collection complete but I am starting to get a little wary of classic albums being re-released (even if the music is original). I found both the latest Floyd and Jarre releases to be well below par.

I quite enjoyed the Floyd one for what it was... haven't heard the JMJ one.

I would actually be quite open-minded about the new Oldfield, because it sounds as though it's actually new original music, not just remixes or music from tapes he found sitting around in the cupboard. I do have a problem with the title; it seems to be an attempt to cash in on the popularity of Ommadawn. However I have seen comments to the effect that some people liked Tubular Bells II better than TB1, so as I say I am open-minded.
