Lennon's 'imagine'
#11
Jerome Wrote:But I digress- back to 'Imagine' - at the time John was singing about 'imagine no possessions', he sure was collecting them pretty quickly. Maybe he was finding the pressures of fame too much to deal with. For all it's white imagery style movie clips, I find it a pretty bleak album.

yes, 'imagine' is a very bleak, biting, scathing, bitter album, pauls first two solo outings had some equally bleak, bitter songs on them, paul was a master of attaching pleasant melodies to those lyrics, whereas john was more forthright with his emotions, which i admire in him, and the way john lay all his insecurities on the plastic for all to see and hear was very gutsy at the time, in a time when those things werent spoke of in public

I wish George had released more material. Thought he was largely ignored, but if you look at the sheet music for his songs, he came up with some incredible chord progressions and melodies. Also largely ignored is the fact that he was one of the pioneers of peforming 'benefit concerts' - (remember Concert for Bangladesh) long before the rest of the world jumped on the bandwagon with Live Aid/8 etc.
