Hey Guys, the names tom and i need your help.
Im in university studying music production, and i have an assignment to write about the use of delay in Reggae, are then any reggae fans out there who can point me in the right direction either with a link, or some tips of what to search, i have searched 'the use of delay in reggae' in google, and it just comes up with lessons on how to play.
any reply will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tom. Welcome to the site. Delay is just another term for 'echo'. I'm not sure what your assignment is aimed at but I assume they are looking for the use of echo effects in reggae music. If you do a search for that phrase you might have more luck. Incidentally a band called UB40 released an album called 'Signing Off' some years back. There is plenty of echo (delay) on that album and it is basically a reggae-influenced 'pop' album. Think about which instrument has a repeating sound in a reggae track. Hope this helps.

The delay / echo effect was used a lot in the dub style of reggae. Lee "Scratch" Perry is well known as a producer who used it and the rhythm section of Sly & Robbie were also famous for it. Implied delay/echo was prominent in reggae with the drummer & bassist playing in triplet patterns (often over the barline) to mimic the delay sound that dj's and producers were getting in their studios.

The Clash's Sandinista album
"dub" mixes from the 70s and on.
At 1:00 the vocals are "Dubbed" = delayed at 2:30 instruments get "dubbed too"
