Guy Pratt was born on this day in 1962, in London, England. Heâs a prolific session bass player and quite a funny man. Heâs done stand-up shows about his experiences in the music industry (which are multitude) and written a book titled My Bass and Other Animals.
He started out being invited to join Icehouse, who supported David Bowie on his Serious Moonlight tour and it was all plain sailing from there; he got noticed by all sorts of people with whom he has played over the years - Pink Floyd (he's married to Richard Wright's daughter, Gala), David Gilmour, Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Madonna, Michael Jackson, The Smiths, Robert Palmer, Echo & the Bunnymen, Tears for Fears, Bananarama, Iggy Pop, Tom Jones, Debbie Harry, Whitesnake, Womack & Womack, Kirsty MacColl, Gary Moore, Coverdale Page, Lemon Jelly, The Orb, All Saints, Stephen Duffy, Robbie Robertson, and A. R. Rahman.

Robin Guthrie was born on this day in 1962, in Grangemouth, Scotland. He was a co-founder of the Cocteau Twins and is a multi-instrumentalist and composer, as well as knowing his stuff in the field of sound processing, programming and sampling; he is an audio engineer and producer.
After the twins (who were actually triplets) disbanded, he went on to release five solo albums, became a member of Violet Indiana for the first half of the 2000âs, and has also recorded a number of collaborative efforts including scores, notably with Harold Budd. Iâm not sure how to define his work ⦠electronic, bit of shoegaze, dream pop, post rock, ambient, alternative ⦠many different elements!

his musical career waned in the mid 1960s but he was making 3 movies a year at
that time, he had no time for music, made 33 movies in all, all were box office smashes...
also, became the first artist to sell one billion albums worldwide back in the early 2000s...
inducted into the gospel/Country and R+R Hall Of Fames also...
received three Grammy's in his lifetime, all were for his Gospel recordings...

Born on the same day but one year later than Bowie, in 1947, in the City of Angels, is Robby Krieger, formally lead, and other guitarist of the The Doors â they had session bass players in studio and also used the late Ray Manzarekâs keyboard bass, mostly live.
Krieger has released seven solo albums over the years since the demise of The Doors. I listened to his most recent instrumental release, Singularity, which indulges his love of fusion, as well as Spanish guitar (he had bought a Ramirez on a school break to Puerta Vallarta and was later taught how to play Flamenco, informally, from what I can gather by author/playwright/actor Frank Chin). There are some shining moments, in my view, especially since I have a penchant for Flamenco, and there are some rather spectacular slide numbers, but itâs also a bit too cacophonic in places for my personal taste.

In his website bio he says (or must have said, some time back!), âIn The Doors we have both musicians and poets, and both know of each otherâs art, so we can effect a synthesis. In the case of Tim Buckley or Dylan you have one manâs ideas. Most groups today arenât groups. In a true group all the members create the arrangements among themselves.â That must have been before The Soft Parade, which is the first album where all the writing is not credited to The Doors, but to individuals. This was as a result of Jim Morrison not wanting to be associated with some of Kriegerâs lyrics, apparently. Not an easy album to record as among other difficulties, including huge expenses, by that stage âJimboâ was behaving, err, rather badly. Reading between the lines, Krieger gets credit for at least half the writing on the album, so one might assume that he took a large portion of the responsibility for keeping it all together at that time.
