Darren Wharton was born on this day in 1961, in Failsworth, England. He was the keysman for Thin Lizzy up until Phil Lynott dissolved the band after which he formed his own outfit named Dare. They produce AOR with a Celtic flavour - sort of - not dissimilar to U2 I guess.

From what I can gather they got going around about when the demise of this style of music was happening, however, they have retained a solid fanbase and have somehow survived the wilds of the music biz without the backing of a big label – to their credit. Lots of live performances, I would imagine – anthemic stuff that would stir an audience. I listened to the most recent of their albums Road to Eden. Wharton doesn’t have a bad voice reminds me a bit of Steve Hogarth in places – not the kind of stuff I’m currently enjoying listening to, but hey ho - it's good old melodic rock ...

Rick Marotta was born on this day in 1948, in New York City. He's a drummer with around 368 album credits up his sleevey. He did quite a bit with Carly Simon but otherwise has worked with vast number of different artists - I'm assuming him to be a first call session drummer considering the list! He also composed the music for the TV show Everybody Loves Raymond which I must say, I do not recall. His little brother Jerry is a notable drummer too - must've had some longsuffering parents!! I've chosen Steely Dan's "Peg" from Aja ...

and Roxy Music's "To Turn You On" ...
