D-12 "devil's night" cd, 2001.
a revisit...
Eminem's crew from "south of 8 mile"...
their first album of two...
still a pretty good listen for me...
sure it has some foul language but it is all done tongue-in-cheek and sarcastically with an element of in your face home truths attached.
lots of Eminem humour but that doesnt stifle the ferocity of the lyrics in any way...
album contained the hit "purple pills", edited and censored and retitled "purple hills" for radio which takes away the whole idea of it...
if only Slim Shady would go back to this style of rapping...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
favourite:
It's shit like this I kick to these rich white kids
Who just might see how fucked up this sick life is
Oops, I did it again, didn't I? My shit's harder
To figure out than what Britney's tit's size is
Ooh, I probably pissed you off again, didn't I, bitch?
So what Christina Aguilera kiss my grits
You know how many shit's I get if I wish I did
So I can quit givin' these twisted little kids ideas.
This just in, Britney just dissed Justin
She just fucked Ben, got tit fucked and dick sucked him
If Afflec can get his ass licked, how I can't shit
Goddamn bitch, I'm rich I can't understand this
Are those pictures they made of us together on the Internet
As close as I'm ever gonna get to hittin' it from the back
And shit when it comes to that I hit harder from the back
Than Everlast when he's pluggin' Lethal in his fuckin' ass
Just give me one more chance, Britney, hit me one more time
Let me know what's on your mind, Whitney give me one more line
To sniff, you fuckers know what time it is
Fuck your jewelery my record's almost dyin', beeotch
What's goin' on in the world today?
People fightin', feudin', lootin', it's okay
Let it go, let it flow, let the good times roll
Tell 'em Dre, "It ain't nuttin' but music"
Eminem doesn't like N'Sync, well I do
So fuck him and the Backstreet Boys too
Whatever happened to the cast of Different Strokes?
Mary's broke, Ty's snortin' coke and then an overdose
I got two little boys wit me
Michael Jackson sent two helicopters to get me
I'm up early wit my hair curly
Me and Mr. Furly, fuckin' Laverne and Shirley.
A lotta rappers are live in in la, la, land
That's why I let my dogs out on the Baha men
As bad as a life I had, I'm not mad
I don't need to be a jackass to beat up my dad
My whole family's country, my grandmother's old fashioned
And she keeps askin' me why I rap wit a honky?
But granny, I'm a flunky I could be a junky
I could be hangin' with the hoochies out at the club scene.
To all the independent women in the house
Hey
Show us your tits and shut your motherfuckin' mouth
What
Robert Downey, Bobby Brownie, Whitney Houston
The shit's confusin'
Jesse Jackson, reverend scandal
Got George Michael's, Tevin Campbell's
Pee Wee Herman's, peep show places
Public restrooms, peep those cases
What's goin' on in the world today?
People fightin', feudin', lootin', it's okay
Let it go, let it flow, let the good times roll
Tell 'em Dre, "It ain't nuttin' but music"
Huh, your mom and dad probably mad at us, for what?
We done turned their kids into little body snatchers
Ain't like where I'm from, we don't bite our tongue
Are you sure you want niggas 21 to carry guns
It's sad but I'm glad that I'm made to rhyme
Where you work you ain't gettin' paid for that overtime
It's only music, media know it but they blind
I ain't in your light, so stay they hell up outta mine
Y'all the reason why Princess Diana ended up dyin'
If you people get offended I don't care, stop cryin'
Tryin' to get us to leave 'cuz what we say just ain't clean, uh, uh
But holdin' back on what I say just ain't me
Now what's these parents all mad for? Your music is bad for 'um
For teenage kids that drink more than Ted Danson in Cheers
Carson drink beers, we all fart and piss and cuss out our bitch
Shut up
Broke or rich, I still do that same old shit
I don't jump in front of a camera and change no shit
So when they ask me about my sarcasticness
I just slap 'em, turn around and ask 'em this
What's goin' on in the world today?
People fightin', feudin', lootin', it's okay
Let it go, let it flow, let the good times roll
Tell 'em Dre, "It ain't nuttin' but music"

EMINEM "revival" cd, 2017:
a revisit....
his nineth of eleven...
not my favourite by any means but has its cool moments IMO...
not anywhere near as much of the foul language that he used in his early years...
songs are still autobiographical in nature but also some anti Trump/Republican songs...
lyrically he is still a master of rhyming words and phrasing...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM.
favourite happens to be the lead off single, and dare i say it, its a sad song....

I LOVE IT.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "only the strong survive" cd 2022
a recent new release, in fact it was released last week....
his twenty-first studio album and second covers set, the first was "the seeger sessions" back in 2006.
whereas that one was a folk covers album this one is mainly 1960s r&b covers...
on it he uses mainly r+b musicians but does use the "e-street horn section" also...
nothing to not like on here just a decent album of covers in which The Boss lets his hair down and can enjoy these songs just as he did when they were released.
not classic Springsteen by any means but a decent set that contains a good mix of well known and not so well known r+b.
album rates a decent 2.0 which means....
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

the latest single and a good cover of Tyrone Davis' r+b classic:

SUDAN ARCHIVES "natural brown prom queen" 2022.
from one of the EOY best of lists...
released back in September (9/11 to be exact)...
from Cincinnati but i guess has Sudanese heritage???
classically trained violinist but has ventured into r+b...
some of this isnt too bad, certainly better than the usual modern crap from the genre but still trashy at times...
that said...
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

CHISENGA "rhythm & poetry" 2021.
deezer listen:
Aussie rapper...
works on the smae mine site as my sister so i said i would listen to an album of his as a courtesy to the dude...
has released several albums...
foul language, porn and nudity in videos seems to be missing in non-american rap music...
interesting enough not to turn off but at 25 tracks at nearly 90 minutes it is simply too long, halve it and it would have been better,
(erase it and even better still if you are Jerome LOL).
some okay tribal sounds on here and the video for the single linked below was filmed here in Perth.
I DO NOT LIKE NOR DISLIKE THIS ALBUM
single: refreshing not to see bling, nudity, foul language and booty shaking in a rap video!

FLO RIDA "good feeling" (EP) 2012
borrowed from a friend whilst mine collection is still waiting to be unpacked...
an Aussie only release to help promote his then current Australian tour...
"ep" contains half a dozen tracks, all previously released, so basicaly a minor greatest hits package of sorts...
ive got to be honest and say i could not recall ever hearing Flo Rida but i guess i must have...
half decent R+B album here so it was surprisingly pleasant...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

PRINCE "emancipation" 1996
borrowed from a good friend...
his nineteenth studio album, first in almost a decade to feature his name instead of that weird symbol...
the first album of his to contain cover versions, covers by Stylistics, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osbourne and Delfonics to name a few...
a triple cd, containing 36 track and clocking in at a whopping 180 minutes in length...
a long hard listen but still enjoyable as a lot of these songs do not sound like Prince...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
I love this little acoustic based track:
