What Are You Listening To?
The Police - Synchronicity - great album.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

Next up - UB40 - Signing Off - the only album of theirs that I like. Very different from the norm at the time it was released. Minimalistic reggae for want of a better description. The Johnny Walker wisdom's running high............

Jerome Wrote:The Police - Synchronicity - great album.

i have ALL their albums on vinyl from back in the day(and numerous singles also)....
i actually find The Police boring to listen to now(as i do Sting as a solo artist)....

Synchronicity is,IMO, the only album of theirs worth listening to, and the only one i can listen to in one sitting....
superb writing, production, performance, and a 'complete' album from go-to-woe!
i havent heard it in a couple of years though, maybe i should dust it off!
"every breath you take" is one of the greatest songs ever by any artist IMO....
its a very acclectic album(certainly for anything Sting was ever involved with!)

as for Sting as a solo artist....
i have his first four efforts on vinyl including his "bring on the night" double live vinyl album....
i used to love "nothing but the sun" but didnt care for it last time i listened....
i still think his "dream of the blue turtles" is a pop/jazz fusion masterpiece,up there with "synchronicity" for sure....

favourite track of his as a solo artist has got to be "fields of gold"....bloody brilliant piece of work....

i have this one on vinyl also.....
im not a fan of reggae as a whole but i love that album.

for those who dont know "UB40" is the form used to the UK Social Security office by applicants who wish to sign on for the unemployment benefit scheme.
the album title "signing off" was what these Birmingham boys did when they got their recording contract(singed off the dole!)

King,Tyler,Food For Thought.....fantastic tracks IMO.....
didnt take long for them to go all commercial after this one,did it?!

i used to love these guys back in the day, have four or five albums on either cassette or vinyl and a lot of their singles also....
i find them boring and 'without soul' now, just cant bare to listen to them....
again,
i should revisit "signing off" from the vinyl boxes....

thanks Jerome, you have just sparked my memory into remembering just how good this one and Synchronicity were/are.

now, if i could just find those albums in the storage boxes in the shed.....

Goat's Head Soup - The Rolling Stones - bought this for one track and one track only - Angie. Classic!

thats three or four posts in a row that were in sync with Jerome....

i bought "some girls" purely for "beast of burden" and "miss you"
also bought "beggars banquet" purely for "sympathy for the devil"

IMO, The Stones made crap albums, maybe three or four ok tracks and a lot of filler, and occasionally a great track, like "angie" and that "wild horses" track.

"angie" is their greatest recording IMO....

very overrated band IMO,yet highly influential, so its hard to criticise them for getting kids to pick up a guitar and form their own bands really!

I agree totally with your summary of all three bands, Stones, Police & UB40. You are spot on.

Tusk - Fleetwood Mac. Not as good as Rumours or Tango in the Night, but it does have two absolute classics - Storms & Sara. This album was where they allowed Lindsey Buckingham to have free reign with the production.

Good cover! Joe Cocker's version is still my favourite though
