HUMBLE PIE "natural born bugle-the immediate anthology" 1999

career stats:
studio albums...11
live albums.......6
compilations.....13
singles.............15

hard rock/blues rock/southern rock band formed by Small Faces' Steve Marriott and The Herd's Peter Frampton in 1968.....
Marriott was offerd the job of vocalist for Led Zepplin by Page but turned it down because he would not be in charge or have a say under Page....
this compilation is basically their first two studio albums with the singles "B" sides, the singles that were stand alone singles and a few unreleseed tracks
that couldnt fit on to the albums....
lots of eclectic sounds here from Blues rock/hard rock, southern rock, folk, county, vaudevillian, even a couple of grunged up instrumentals....
this album was/is always going to get a love rating from me because im a huge fan of Marriott....
its pretty hard for me to pick a favourite track from these guys, so i'll just add a selection of several that i really love....
in mid 1990 it seemd that the band would reform as Marriott and Frampton started to write and record together again....
unfortunately several months later in 1991 Marriott(aged 44) fell asleep in bed whilst smoking and his house burnt down with him inside and taking his life at such a young age ending all hopes of a Humble Pie reunion....
some of those tracks they recorded can be found on Frampton's 1991 release "shine on:a collection"
Marriott was,IMHO, the greatest rock vocalist the UK ever produced and the Small Faces the best UK band of the 1960s....
anyway,

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Harvest Moon - Neil Young - the best thing he did since Harvest. Love this album. Perfect for a rainy afternoon like today. Just chilling with this wonderful album. Bliss!

David Bowie - Stage - this one just does not stand up to the test of time for me. Love the material but the delivery leaves a lot to be desired. A very talented man but I don't like the production on this album.

i may have asked this previously but.....
do you own "prairie wind" Jerome?????
you really should listen to it if you dont own it.......same sort of folky/country/acoustic sounds as Harvest/Harvest Moon but prefer it over those two.

have you watched his "heart of gold" dvd filmed in Nashville?....showcases him at his best IMO, all acoustic plays mostly off the three albums mentioned above.

Hey CH - I do have Prairie Wind and I like it. Have not seen the DVD yet so that's something to notch up for next week. I prefer his folk stuff to his electric stuff. But I also like Rust Never Sleeps.

Camel - Rajaz - love this album - one of their best efforts. And as has been mentioned here before, Mr Latimer has a unique guitar tone. Just takes me away to another place.....

Mike Oldfield - Discovery - I like a lot of this album but the title track does nothing for me.
