Ihave one studio album and a compilation, both on vinyl

MARK KNOPFLER "Shangri-la" cd, 2004

solo career stats:
studio albums......8
singles...............12

this album.............#11 UK........#69 AU........#66 US
singles:
"boom,like that"...............no chart info

Knopfler's fourth studio set as a solo artist.....
its very bluesy,rootsy,folky....all of the above, most of th sons havethatsame feel to me as the "brothers in arms" track....
theres a couple of tribute songs on this one....."back to tupelo"(Elvis Presley), "donegan's gone"(Lonnie Donegan and "song or sonny listen"(sonny liston)....
all of Knopfler's songs, whatever the album or era have 'feel' to them, lots of emotive guitar playing, lyrics and vocals....he's a master of that.
love his guitar playing also.....
this album is pure Knopfler, you either like/love his material or you dislike it, me, I love it, great album, one of his best solo efforts IMO.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

best track: whoop de doo

Of course I recognise the impact and importance of the Beatles, but I must ‘fess up … in truth, I never listen to them (I’ll head for the hills now! :eekSmile.

Of the four, I always liked George the best, and this is actually a really lovely release. Notably the fabulous bass by Willie Weeks, equally cool drums by Alvin Taylor, and George’s guitars – so nicely done; all in all, the instrumentation is of a high standard, I would say. It’s an upbeat album and a real pleasure to listen to …

A fairly funky number, this one -

To be followed in rapid succession by Crisis - What Crisis?, Even in the Quietest Moments and finally Brother Where You Bound. Great band.

C’est magnifique. It’s rare that the live record surpasses the studio recordings, and I agree, Paris is a prime example of a band at their peak – love it. The DVD is such a great pleasure to watch.
