The Last Waltz - The Band - a trip down memory lane for me. Just love that version of 'Dixie'.

Iâve been listening to Jackson Browne who is literally and figuratively singing his heart out on his 1993 album, Iâm Alive. Great to hear a good number of lovely soulful songs on this album, including a distinctly reggae flavoured surprise! This release is clearly very personal and deals with relationships, running the whole gamut of emotions â not many holds barred.
There is nothing of the political/environmental activist here; what there is, is a most impressive list of personnel! A special mention of the percussion section, which to me, sounds wonderful and consistently strong throughout. They are Mauricio-Fritz Lewak and Jim Kletner on drums and Lenny Castro and Luis Conte on other percussion instruments. It seems there were one or two good things to come out of the nineties, after all ⦠The six tracks I most enjoyed - That reggae number â âEverywhere I Goâ ⦠https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d10KTCw-s-Q Beautiful song and a beautiful video by the uploader - and a grand return to form (pre Hold Out, that is) IMHO. Bravo! - âIâll Do Anythingâ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGC9u_APPzs The same uploader and another sentimental beauty which somehow manages to miss being sickly sweet or kitsch â a great pairing, all helped along by very nice instrumentation and backing vocals by Jennifer Warnes and Valerie Carter â âToo Many Angelsâ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umyF43OwLu0 âTwo Of Me, Two Of Youâ â what can I say? Everyone has a secret self ⦠this is a eulogy to them - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiL9dwPkJbM âSky Blue and Blackâ â thereâs a lot of insightfulness and baring of soul in this â and acceptance of the way things are - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaT04YFgAIY ⦠and the final track, with the help of a pair of little known backup singers, David Crosby and Don Henley (lol!) â âAll Good Thingsâ â

God's Great Banana Skin by the master of the bottleneck blues - Chris Rea. Helluva opener - quite hypnotic.

I have five of Chris' albums, I should own more than I do IMO...
had never heard your linked track before....fan-bloody-tastic Ruby, thanks. cool video also... he's a quality writer, performer and guitar player, up there with the likes of Knopfler and Gilmour(did I say Gilmour?, looks like im turning into a prog-head) BTW.... does anyone have a clue as to where the video in Ruby's Rea link was shot? im assuming it is probably Scandanavian, but I could be wrong.

![]() DAVE GILMOUR "rattle that lock" cd, 2015 solo career stats: studio albums.........4 singles...................8 this album............#1 UK...#1 NZ...#2 AU...#2 CAN...#5 US singles: "rattle that lock".....#71 France "today".................no chart info. ok, so im not a big fan of Pink Floyd.... "the division bell" is their greatest piece of work IMO,because, well, its a Gilmour album. this one has been on almost constant rotation in my car since the day it was released in Australia... I just cant get enough of it.... Gilmour's guitar work is quite mesmerizing when you listen to the way he plays and the emotion he can get out of six strings, much like Knopfler... album has three instrumentals on it and I like every one of them(did you get that Jerome and MH...I like the instrumentals!)... they work well as part of the entire project.... some typical PF sounding tracks on here, some more or less could have fitted on Division Bell and even a pseudo jazz number also... everything about this album is pure class from the packaging, the cover art, the final sound mix etc etc... without a doubt, the best new album I have purchased that was released in 2015... back track I little.... I have no idea what his previous solo material sounds like(im assuming its probably similar) but if this is anything to go by then I should be investigating his other works.... I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: 5 A.M best track: in any tongue ....sorry, no link for my favourite track and ive already posted the title track a couple of times on MD already, so here's the jazzy track "the girl in the yellow dress" tracks: 1...5 A.M (instrumental) ** 2...rattle that lock *** 3...faces of stone *** 4...a boat lies waiting *** 5...dancing right in front of me *** 6...in any tongue *** 7...beauty (instrumental) ** 8...the girl in the yellow dress *** 9...today *** 10.and then..... (instrumental) ** 3s=7 2s=3 1s=0 rating: 2.7

![]() THE SWORD "high country" cd, 2015 career stats: studio albums.........5 singles...................8 this album..............#30 US...#74 AU singles: "high country".........no chart action fifth and latest album from this once 'doom metal' band.... no metal on this one at all,thankfully!... lots of progressive rock sounds though with a hint or two of almost psychedelic.... im hearing bits of Thin Lizzy on this one, even touches of Iron Butterfly in places.... I guess like most albums that hit the prog-rock genre this one needs to be listened to in its entirety to get the full effect of the album.... im no expert on prog by any means and im the first one to admit it, but if this is prog then im on the way to being hooked(not on these guys and their metal, but maybe on prog as a genre...) Jerome, I think you would love this album if you listened to it mate.... I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: silver petals best track: seriously mysterious sorry, no link for my favourite track available so here's another off the album that I love... tracks: ....."unicorn farm" - intro 1...empty temples *** 2...high country *** 3...tears like diamonds *** 4...mist and shadow *** 5...agartha (instrumental) ** 6...seriously mysterious *** 7...suffer no fools (instrumental) ** 8...early snow *** 9...the dream thieves *** 10.buzzards ** 11.silver petals (instrumental) * 12.ghost eye ** 13.turned to dust ** 14.the bees of spring ** 3s=7 2s=6 1s=1 rating: 2.5

CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:I have five of Chris' albums, I should own more than I do IMO... You're welcome - I hadn't heard it either - picked up the CD recently. My immediate thought was that video was shot in Switzerland - could also be wrong. Some of those alpine profiles look vaguely familiar. Funny - that song segued into this one on the internal/eternal shuffle in my brainpod! :biggrin1:...
