What Are You Listening To?
Gordon Giltrap's Visionary, inspired by the words and paintings of William Blake - it's been 'go to' record of choice lately. Gotta get some more of Mr Giltrap's work - great listening - at least, for my ears! Simon Phillips on drums, which always helps. (Instrumental alert ConfusedmileSmile

BOB DYLAN "highway 61 revisited" 1965

studio albums......36
singles................58

this album............#3 US...#4 UK...#2 AU
singles:
"like a rolling stone"..........#8 UK...#2 AU

Bob's sixth studio album and his first real move away from folk....
album is #4 on the Rolling Stone 'greatest albums of all time' list
and "like a rolling stone' is #1 on the RS 'greatest songs of all time' list....
this is almost the perfect album...even though I prefer "infidels" rom the mid 1980s....
the album opens up with Dylan (or Judas) spitting and snarling his way through 'like a rolling stone' and it doesn't end
there. he actually tries to sing on several tracks and theyre all uptempo, "tombstone blues' sounds a lot like the sounds
modern UK singer Jake Bugg is making on his albums, but then again Dyaln was his biggest influence...
so, the album rocks and rolls over eight tracks, then we get to the nineth and final track, Desolation Blues, in which Dylan
is accompanied with acoustic guitar and harmonica in an eleven minute epic piece of storytelling...
its this final track that is my favourite on here, and I really hope there is a youtube link to the track, if not I will post a link
for whatever track I can find because for some reason Dylan's tracks are few and far between on YT...
all up, probably rates higher than "infidels" for me, but that one is still my 'go to' Dylan album...

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: ballad of a thin man
best track: desolation row

sorry, no links for the tracks on this album except a few live versions, and as we all know,
Dylan was never the greatest live performer, so im not putting sub standard links up!

just for your info though, this album is definitely worth getting, even for the casual Dylan listener

tracks:

1...like a rolling stone ***
2...tombstone blues ***
3...it takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry ***
4...from a Buick 6 ***
5...ballad of a thin man **
6...queen jane approximately ***
7...highway 61 revisited ***

I wasn't sure if that would be your favourite on that album or not....?!

Im amazed at the way he can create an epic story that is not repetitious in any way,
makes the six minute Hurricane sound like a three minute pop song!

My Chemical Romance recorded a cool 'punk' version of Desolation Row if youre interested mate:

the bands 12th album (#9 here)
a let down for me
other than the awesome track below
too much synth on most tracks
courtesy of Patrick Moraz (Yes) who had replaced Mike Pinder a few albums back

JACKSON BROWNE "the naked ride home" cd, 2002

career stats:
studio albums......12
singles................48

this album............#36 US...#53 UK...#76 AU
singles:
"the night inside me"........no chart action
"about my imagination"....no chart action

one of those "3 for $10" discount bin specials....
you can never go wrong with Browne IMO, quality writer, quality musician and always, quality songs!
I cant believe he has only released twelve studio albums, thought he'd have made more, I guess its all about
quality over quantity and it shows throughout his career!
album #10 or Browne....
same sounds as you'd expect from his albums....
the critics are divided on this album, some saying its a 'classic', others say 'it shows his flaws as a writer',
really?, he has flaws....if he does/did I don't see/hear them...
another masterful album from Jackson Browne IMO and equal to any of his '70s/'80s albums....

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: never sleep
best track: about my imagination

(sorry about the quality of the link!)

not a fan of the album naming scheme but it does keep it simple in determining chronology
like I don't have to tell you this is their fifth album, which I just did anyway
these guys along with BS&T turned me into a fan of horns in rock music
along with enticing me into the jazz arena
was not a big fan of the hit on here of Saturday In The Park which reached #3 here
but I do love the album overall
it charted at #1 on both the overall and the jazz charts
and has reached double platinum status over the years
making it among maybe their top 5 best selling

my fav
