What Are You Listening To?
They were what you'd call Quintessentially English' and that's why Americans didn't embrace them fully,
same goes for Elvis Costello, Billy Bragg, Paul Weller, The Clash, Madness, Ian Dury etc...

Television frontman
second solo album
loved the band and Toms sound defined the band
so I stuck with him when he went on his own
not sure if the sound got old or Tom left me
either way I dropped out after the next one
this album peaked at #177 here

the leadoff track

fourth album
best selling and highest charting here at #76
UK liked the band a lot more
think I only have this one and This Is The Sea which I prefer
still a good album here
long as they have that mandolin and fiddle up front, I'm in
3 singles pulled of which the title track performed the best

this was my fav this time around

TIMO TOLKKI "hymn to life" cd, 2002

studio albums.....3
singles...............0

one of those "3 for $10" buys at some point...
I bought it because not only did the cover fascinate me but the name Timo Tolkki also..
second studio set from Mr.Tolkki....
I just found out via Wiki that he was lead vocalist for symphonic metal band Stratovarious on their first twelve or thirteen albums...
strange really, because i'd not heard of Stratovarious until last year when I purchased their 2015 album "eternal" after an online listen...
he has also been a member of several other metal band's including Avalon, Synfonia and Chaos Magic to name a few, giving him a discography inexcess
of twenty five studio albums and numerous compilations and live sets...
anyway.
no symphonic metal, or anything that remotely resembles metal on this one...
just eleven alt/alt rock tracks...including a couple of ballads and theyre as far from metal as you could probably get IMO...
nothing on here I don't like but three I love...
"key to the universe' is closer to classic rock/prog than metal, of the other two, 'are you the one?' is sung by a female band member, and the last one I love
is also closer to a ballad than alt rock...
all up, a nice surprise for $3.33...

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: little boy I miss you
best track: key to the universe
