CLANNAD "the essential" cd, 2013

career stats:
studio albums..........15

this album.....no chart action

a double disc, thirty track, career spanning set(1970-2013)...
two sides to this band for me...
first side: I don't like anything of here at all when listened to under cans or in the car,
boring monotonous music that all sounds the same to me
second side: the best background music album I own, great for having on during dinner, whilst reading or generally
relaxing, soothing sounds when you don't want to listen too hard or get distracted...
lots of lush instruments and harmonies throughout but just not listening music to me.

two rating scores for me:

1. or actively listening....1.0
2. for non distractive background pleasure....3.0
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

I was reluctant to join the new wave scene (too much keyboard)
but I guess the Cars drug me in
this is the bands fifth album and they were riding high
2nd best selling album after their debut
reached #3 on the chart
6 singles out of the 10 tracks so something had to stick
Drive scored the best of those

but this was my fav

DAVID BOWIE "heathen" cd, 2003

career stats:
studio albums.....27
singles..............121

this album..........#5 UK...#9 AU...#14 US
singles:
slow burn.......................#94 UK...#69 AU
everyone says hi.............#20 UK
ive been waiting for you....no chart action

Mr.Bowie's twenty-fourth studio set...
one I bought the day after he died because I never got round to it previously(not because he died)...
this one has been played at least twice a week in my car since his death and is my second favourite of
his after "lodger"...
I don't think ballad would ever be the right word for a David Bowie song, but if it was, this album has a
lot of them...
most unusual track on here, not unusual for him, just that it doesn't fit with the sound of the rest of the album
is "Gemini spaceship"...which has a Kraut Rock feel happening and harks back to some of his late 1970s sounds...
best track for me is the lovely melodious "everyone says hi" which is simply beautiful...
all up, a very good album IMO

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: heathen

gave this a fresh listen knowing I had previously posted it
didn't realize it was almost 5 years ago
so it has been that long since I listened to it
here is a link to what I posted then

http://www.music-discussion.com/showthre...#post37503

my feelings about it have not changed
maybe after a few more listens
so that should be in about 15-20 years from now

"take me away"......no chart action.

American alt-rock band,
this is their third studio album...
I hear Creed throughout this one, well, the song "with arms wide open" anyway...
I hear vocals that are a cross between Eddie Vedder and MH's favourite vocalist Chris Cornell(sorry mate,
couldn't help myself, I know how much you dislike Cornell, LOL)
songs are mostly in the same vein as the Creed one I mentioned, probably hear more Vedder than Cornell,
nothing really outstanding on this one, just a pleasant album for driving in my car...
