DAVID BOWIE "reality" cd, 2003

career stats:
studio albums........27
singles.................121

this album.................#3 UK...#13 AU...#14...NZ...#29 US
singles:
"never get old"..........no chart action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NorNUMoewQ
"new killer star".........no chart action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwH1g2fW6Pc

Bowie's twenty fifth studio album....
thought he'd disappeared after this one then a decade later
he came out with the brilliant "the next day" album, which believe me,
took a long time for me to like...
this one has all of Bowie's trademark sounds on it, similar to "lodger" in places...
a track that's sounds a bit funky and another with a jazzy feel...
two covers on here....
"Pablo Picasso" which was originally recorded by punk band Modern Lovers in the early 1970s,
but ive never heard that one so to me Bowie's version is original...
the other cover is George Harrison's "try some, buy some" which appeared on his "living in the material world"
album...I don't have that album and have never heard it, so again, Bowie's version is the only one I know, and
it also happens to be my favourite on the album...
songs tend to blend into each other on this one...
all up, one of my favourite albums of his...

WEEZER "everything will be alright in the end" cd, 2014

career stats:
studio albums.......10
singles.................25

this album...............#5 US...#45 AU...#10 CAN...#33 NZ...#37 UK
singles:

"Da Vinci".....................no chart action..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtJAsvzKKnQ

album number nine for this alt rock band....
a closer return to their musical roots on this one after their previous couple
were more electronic, well, not electronic, just more synths to be fair to them...
slight "Americana" sound on this in places...
a good collection of tracks, and of the five or so I own, the only one (from memory)
where I actually like every track (theres always a couple of filler tracks IMO)....
final track is quite lengthy, ten or so minutes, its a 'trilogy', well that's what they call it...
I call it three tracks stuck together with superglue.

eleventh and latest album but they have new one due later this year...
this one is the third of a trilogy....
any guesses as to the titles of the previous two in the trilogy?....
very ambitious project and commercial suicide by releasing three albums in the space of three months...
their usual sounds on this one...
one cover, the Sam Cooke song "brutal love"...
would have been my favourite track had it not been a cover, ive not heard the original, but I love GD's version...
not as much filler on this one as the second set in the trilogy IMO...

second album of only 3
jangly guitar sound
what does that even mean?
I don't know but it has it
guys vocals give me a Church vibe

Kim Deal (Pixies) shows up on this single

"Jangly guitar sound" is good. It makes me think of The Byrds, along with many other bands who do more with the guitar than simply play "licks" and "riffs". And yes, I would include The Church in that list.

My favourite weekly radio programme - "Golden Apples of the Sun" - podcast from Aug 7.

Everyone knows Perth has produced many great rock bands, but you might be surprised - i certainly am - by the number of acts emanating from this city who would fall under the banner of "alternative". This particular episode features solely artists from, or based in, Western Australia. These are not your pub rock bands, there is some very experimental ambient and electronic stuff to be heard here.

this album....................#85 AU

fifth album from this psychedelic rock band from Australia...
these guys ooze acid so much they make "white rabbit" sound like a nursery rhyme
instead of a psychedelic masterpiece!
this is real trippy man!, sends me into a music induced psychosis as soon as I hit the play button...
great stuff IMO

heres a good band from Perth that you probably wouldn't have heard of bob, well, you might of, they were interviewed by RTR when this one came out.
the vocalist, Corey Ranger is a friend of mine,
he used to provide vocals for a Perth based Foo Fighters cover band called White Limo,
this is his own self composed track off his debut 'ep'

^^ I have not heard of that band CH, I'll listen to the clip when I have a spare moment.

The King Gizzard album, irrespective of anything else, gets credit for the cleverness of the cover art. Tasmanians won't be happy though; Tassie has been left off the map once again.

Psychedelia seems back in fashion, at least here in Perth. There is a band called Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, who sound a bit like Tame Impala but even more spaced out.

Hmm, that's not a bad song from Silent Deeds. Better than most of what's on the current pop charts.

Nice to see some local looking landscape in a music video, too.
