I'm listening to Hammock - Departure Songs (album)

If I was stranded on a deserted island, I would want Hammock to be my music there. Ahh, yeah atmospheric soundscapes take me away.

Raising Your Voice...Trying To Stop An Echo is my main jam, but this album is solid too. I've listened to both albums today, heh.

I had cruddy sounding earbuds when I listened to Departure Songs a few days ago and so, I got a new pair and this album sounds even better, it's pretty great. I love it. Hammock makes me feel good. I'm surprised I enjoy this tbh.

My technology was playing up yesterday, or I would have said Happy Birthday to Hans-Joachim Roedelius who is a Berlin born experimental, ambient and electronic musician and composer, and a founder of the Krautrock bands Kluster/Cluster/Qluster and Harmonia – he’s also collaborated with the likes of Brian Eno, Dieter Moebius (who was also in Kluster/Cluster) and Tim Story and he has a number of solo albums to his credit - he’s a pianist, plays the guitar and uses synthesizers extensively.

I only know a mere fraction of his more melodic work – the dissonant stuff doesn’t appeal to me too much, although it is certainly interesting! This is no wishy washy new age gruel – he creates such depth of sound - some of it quite heartachingly gorgeous.

Anyway – I’ve been trawling blindly around his discog listening to bits and pieces – these are some of those I like …

From his debut album, Durch Die Wüste (Through the Deser) because the cover artwork is stunning and this ominous, eclectic track would have been sooo out there at the time … “Regenmacher” translates to “Rainmaker” which makes absolute sense when you hear it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVI327Y3Xko
