What Are You Listening To?
Strawbs – From the Witchwood (1971). This was the final largely folk-oriented album they made before moving more emphatically into the progosphere, and it was also their last with Rick Wakeman. Some lovely instruments make for interesting sounds … banjo and dulcimer by Dave Cousins … RW plays all sorts of keys including the harpsichord and celesta, and there’s a sitar in the mix too. Lead vocals are credited primarily to Cousins, but others also contribute which makes for a bit of variation, i.e. Tony, Hooper, Richard Hudson and John Ford. All in all a good listen and a worthy precursor to an incredibly successful run of albums produced in the first half of the 70’s …

“In Amongst the Roses” … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzJu0vNzWgM

“Thirty Days” with sitar, and since John Ford wrote it, and his name appears first in the list of vocal credits, it’s probably him singing it too. Whoever it is, their voice, and the song IMHO calls to mind George Harrison … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYFowSOgufk

And while on this subject Sir Thomas Beecham was conducting an orchestra - a rehearsal for some forthcoming concert. A poor unfortunate female cellist was having a really bad day, not bowing correctly and making plenty of mistakes/noises in the process. Frustrated, Tommy-boy decided to scold her in the following manner;

'Madam, the instrument between your legs is capable of delivering pleasure to thousands and all you can do is sit there and scratch it. !!!!!!

CHEAP TRICK "bang, zoom, crazy....hello" cd, 2016:

career stats:
studio albums...............17
singles.........................64

this album....................#31 US...#111 UK
singles:
"when I wake up tomorrow"....no chart action

seventeenth studio set from one of the most underrated/underappreciated bands of the rock era...
I own ten of their albums, they never disappoint, always quality material IMO...
they have their trademark sound as opposed to a watermark sound...
first album of their not to include their original drummer, no info on whether he was injured or retired though?....
they were inducted into the R+R HoF in 2016 (a long overdue accolade IMO)....
one cover on here, "the in crowd"...could have done without that one but the rest is pretty good
with me loving half the album, liking the rest except for the cover...
album would score an impressive 2.4 from me, which puts it up there with the majority of their back catalogue..
pretty hard to pick a favourite track here, so i'll post the single from it:

^^ Great album - I don't listen to it a lot these days, but it's one of those albums i like to know is there in my collection for those times when I need it.

I'd say everyone should have one Enya album in their collection, though whether you need more than one is a moot point. She has pretty much kept to a formula.

Agree. I had two of them before I sold all my records, the first two if I remember correct, and this is also the case where my expression makes sense Smile
