What Are You Listening To?

Are you familiar with Colin Bass's solo albums Jerome? Andy Latimer is all over An Outcast of the Islands and slightly less on At Wild End. Of the two I think I prefer the first. Haven't heard any of CB's Mustapha/s albums. Must listen sometime. This is the opener on AOOTI ...

Missed this reply for some reason??!!? No, I have not heard his solo stuff Ruby. It seems there are so many solo albums to complement the fantastic output of the 70's I won't have any time left to listen to anything relatively new!

^True. The 70's were phenomenal. Sometimes the solos bombed spectacularly, but in this instance, not, IMHO.
(I have since dipped into his Mustapha alter ego's stuff, and that is not for me.)

Oh there was crap in the 70's as well, but overall the bulk of it was pretty good. Unfortunately now the bulk of it is crap and the good ones are few and far between.

ROLLING STONES "sticky fingers"  cd,  1971

the band's nineth….
album was the first to feature their iconic tongue logo on the label...
so, the album...
starts off brilliantly with some down and dirty rock "brown sugar" which is, in my opinion,
one of the all time greatest song rock songs...
track two, Sway, continues the swagger of the of the opening track, then we get into an almost
ballad type slow blues burner called, Wild Horses, which is in my top ten Stones tunes, its
apparently about Marianne Faithful, but Keith has always denied it...
track four has jazzy overtones but goes on for over seven minutes, I don't like it...
track five is a black American Gospel cover, that one is pretty good...
but after that the album is all downhill for me, and that is basically how I find most of their output,
either brilliant or pure filler and this album is no different...
I love three tracks, like another one but dislike the remainder so I guess,
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite track...
as a footnote, why would anyone want to 'move like jagger'????

Counting Crows - August & Everything After - brings back memories this one. Fantastic album but they were never able to repeat it.

BRYAN FERRY  "let's stick together"  vinyl, 1976:

im kinda disappointed now that ive done some research on Wiki...
never knew this was an album of covers and re-recorded Roxy Music tunes,
always though it was new songs...
feeling let down that "the price of love" was a Phil and Don cover, damn!, and
the lead off title track was a cover also....
that all puts a bit of a dampener on it for me....
really thought I loved this album but im torn now!

regardless, favourite track:

QUEEN "queen"  cd,  1973:

their debut....
this was a deliberate album pick as I was hoping that having watched the Freddie biopic
twice recently that it may have changed my mind about the album....
I was almost going to post the album in 'hard rock/metal" as some of the material
could be classed as metal, but metal as in early 70s metal ie: Sabbath and Purple...
album is almost psychedelic in parts also...
lacks their trademark harmonies and melodies but once in a while they do come through..
Bo-Rhap, the bio-pic hasn't changed my opinion of the album at all because...
I DO NOT LIKE IT apart from three maybe four tracks...

one of the standout tracks for me:
