What Are You Listening To?
My friend and I did a podcast on our top 10 albums of the decade. Do you think our list is any good? What are some of your top 10 albums of the Decade?

AUGIE MARCH  "moo.you.bloody.choir"  cd,  2006

Aussie alt-folk/indi-rock/alt band.
third album of six, I own four.
their first top10 album in their homeland (reaching #10).
nothing bad on the album, also nothing great,
just a steady consistent album.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

U2  "all that you cant leave behind"  cd,  2000

their tenth album
12 million sales worldwide
produced by Eno and Lanois
got this one out of a discount bin for a couple of bucks for the couple of tracks I like
two questions:
how the heck did they manage to release those albums (14 in total)?
and...
how are they still selling multi-million sellers?
gotta be one of the most overrated bands of all time alongside Radiohead, Muse,
Portishead and Coldplay.
but seriously,
three maybe four half decent tracks on here, that's it
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

fave:

MAGIC DIRT "what are rock stars doing today" cd, 2000

from the box of cds I was given last year.
Aussie alt/grunge band
third album reaching #35 on the Aussie charts.
not enough oomph to be grunge
slick polished cat turd IMO, borders emo crap
nothing on here at all I remotely like
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

AUGIE MARCH  "strange bird" cd,  2002

Aussie alternative band.
second album and my favourite of the four I own.
borders more on folk/alt-folk than simply alternative on this one.
a couple of songs even have a jazz feel.
a very very good album, in fact....
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

CRASH TEST DUMMIES "God shuffled his feet" cd, 1993

Canadian alt-folk band
second album of nine
I own the first two, didn't go back for one reason or another
love the singers bass-baritone vocal, takes some getting used to initially though
prefer the debut album but this one is still pretty good
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

the worldwide mega hit:

Never heard of them! I am a sucker for 90's. The vocals remind me a lot of Eve6 and I dont know why but I associate the rhythm with Better Than Ezra.

Been listening to DeerMx for a couple of months now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GrsFrJhjKw They're an Alternative, Trip Hop, Industrial band.

I really like that this song has a theme about "wetbacks" and immigration policies and some good power chords!

I've been listening to DeerMx for a couple of months now. They're a Trip Hop, Industrial, Alternative Rock band. I really like that they're a mexican couple and that they live in Hong Kong.

Love me this song!

Some music has me puzzled. This quartet of lovely ladies are blessed with musical & vocal skills but somehow after a few tracks I felt like giving them all a good dose of cociane to get them moving. Nice in an innocuous way but I eventually lost interest.

If memory serves me right this is a cover of a R.E.M. number given a Pakistani twist.

DAVID BOWIE  "hours"  cd, 1999

his twenty-first studio set
his first since 1972 not to make the US top40
but as usual, makes the top10 in his homeland (peaking at #5).
first half of the album is subdued, the second half more grungy.
love the songs on the first half, can take or leave the other tracks, not that
theyre bad, there's just not much in them for me.
that aside, this was the first album in music history to be made available as a digital download.
album is passable but nowhere near his best.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite track and one of my favourites of his.
some people look cool in whatever theyre wearing...

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

PAUL WELLER  "sonic kicks" cd.vinyl  2012

eleventh solo album.
a deliberate pick to see how it has fared over eight years.
hated this one with a passion when released.
although the album peaked at #1 in his homeland it wasn't a huge seller selling
less than 85,000 copies making it one of the worst sellers of his career.
too electronic in places (influenced by '70s Kraut Rock and Bowie's "low").
album was better this time round, probably enjoyed half the album.
that makes it a borderline like/dislike at this stage.

favourite has a very Blur/Damon Albarn feel to it:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.
