LANA DEL REY "born to die" cd, 2012.
her second of six,
my first of five, only the debut not in my collection.
more upbeat than her other albums that followed but still dour.
experts call her baroque-pop, not even sure I know what that means?
lots of lush strings on here.
subject matter includes sex, drugs, money and alcohol.
'tis a very sobering album, pardon the pun.
probably my favourite of hers and others though so too with it selling
more than 12 million worldwide, more than the combined sales of her other
albums combined.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

My oh me, my
Feet don't fail me now
Take me to your finish line
Oh my heart it breaks every step that I take
But I'm hoping that the gates, they'll tell me that you're mine
Walking through the city streets
Is it by mistake or design
I feel so alone on a Friday night
Can you make me feel like home if I tell you you're mine
Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough I don't know why
Keep making me laugh,
Lets go get high
The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime
Come take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane,
So choose your last words, this is the last time
Cause you and I, we were born to die
Lost but now I am found
I can see but once I was blind
I was so confused as a little child
Tried to take what I could get
Scared that I couldn't find
All the answers honey
Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough I don't know why
Keep making me laugh,
Lets go get high
The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime
Come take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane,
Choose your last words, this is the last time
Cause you and I, we were born to die
We were born to die
We were born to die
Come and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough I don't know why
Keep making me laugh
Lets go get high
The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime
Come take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words, this is the last time
Cause you and I, we were born to die (We were born to die)

THE MOONS "life on Earth" cd, 2010:
UK indi-rock band
debut album of three, only one I own.
band never really took off, no singles ever charted and this album was their highest charting
making it to a lowly #27 on the UK charts.
shame because they had a good sound.
heard some Smiths in a couple of tracks, Blur in several others, Cure in one.
so an easily to digest sound.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM.
favourite wasnt even a single:

THE CRUEL SEA "three legged dog" cd, 1995
Aussie alt-rock band.
fourth album of six, I own two.
has a bit of a blues-rock feel to most of this, hints of jazz in places also.
album was quite 'out there' back in the day but seems quite normal when I listen to it now.
album did peak at #1 on the Aussie charts but these guys really just had a cult following
back in the day.
like just about everything on here, a couple I love and nothing to dislike.

I wasn't doin' nothin', anyway
Just what is it that I'm supposed to have done?
With bloodshot eyes and bleedin' hands
I put my new suit in the cleaners again
I took the first bus, I didn't look back
Lungs long blowin' like a smokestack
Hair fallin' out as the wind blows through it
My horse ran second, just like I knew it would
Overflowin' ashtray, yeah
Oh yeah
Then the officer said
Better get a lawyer, son
You better get a real good one
Get yourself a suit and tie
And get your hair cut way up high
Get yourself a lawyer, son
You're gonna need a real good one
I got legs, I can walk
All the way down the dirt track
I fell down, I got up
I turned around and then I walked back
I walked to the sea
I stood there and looked for a sign
I took time, but it came
I added up and took what was mine
Don't drop the soap
Don't smoke no dope
Get yourself a lawyer, son
You're gonna need a good one to get you outta this one

R.E.M "reveal" cd 2001
their twelfth.
had forgotten I had this one until I finished my unpack of cds a few weeks ago.
had also forgotten how good it was.
nothing catchy on here at all.
songs show them in their quieter, slowed down moments for the most part.
already own "automatic for the people" and "out of time" and I prefer this one over those two.
superb forgotten gem of an album from when they had supposedly passed their prime.

MODELS "collection" cd, 1993
Aussie New Wave band.
had more of a cult following than commercial success.
did manage a couple of hits in the late 1980s though.
biggest claim to fame was being support act for Bowie on his 1983
"serious moonlight tour" of Australia, was there on that tour, they
were a very good live band.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

TAXIRIDE "imaginate" cd, 1999.
Aussie alt rock band.
debut album of four, only one I own.
#1 on the Aussie charts and platinum status here.
I guess this could almost have gone into folk at a stretch.
mainly acoustic rock I guess which fits because my favourite track
has a distinct CSN feel to it.
a pretty good album, i cant remember why I never went back for more.

one cover on here, I Can See Clearly Now, very good version.
nothing exceptional on here just a consistent album of good alt-folk

NOEL GALLAGHER'S HIGH FLYING BIRDS "Noel Gallagher's high flying birds" cd, 2011
his first since Oasis' split two years earlier.
obviously went straight to #1 in his homeland, as every album of his career has gone previously and since.
hints at moving away from the stereotypical Oasis sound but its still there.
either way, a good album nonetheless.
