JAMES TAYLOR  "the best of...." cd, 2003

twenty track compilation.
not a huge fan of Mr.T's recordings, prefer him as a live performer.
that said, I acknowledge that he is responsible for a number of 'pop standards'
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

LORETTA LYNN "coal miners daughter" cd.

I cant find the cover art so I put this one up.
a compilation.
my favourite female country singer ever, will be a sad day indeed....
had no idea until a couple of days ago when I watched an online doco that
she had fourteen songs banned on radio at one time or another in her career over
so called controversial subject matter.
most songs are autobiographical and from the get go she wrote or co-wrote most of her
own material.
even to this day her albums are still traditional country.
loving about 99% of this album, only thing I dislike is the fact it ended!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

her most controversial song:

You wined me and dined me
When I was your girl
Promised if I'd be your wife
You'd show me the world
But all I've seen of this old world
Is a bed and a doctor bill
I'm tearin' down your brooder house
'Cause now I've got the pill

All these years I've stayed at home
While you had all your fun
And every year that's gone by
Another babys come
There's a gonna be some changes made
Right here on nursery hill
You've set this chicken your last time
'Cause now I've got the pill

This old maternity dress I've got
Is goin' in the garbage
The clothes I'm wearin' from now on
Won't take up so much yardage
Miniskirts, hot pants and a few little fancy frills
Yeah I'm makin' up for all those years
Since I've got the pill

I'm tired of all your crowin'
How you and your hens play
While holdin' a couple in my arms
Another's on the way
This chicken's done tore up her nest
And I'm ready to make a deal
And ya can't afford to turn it down
'Cause you know I've got the pill

This incubator is overused
Because you've kept it filled
The feelin' good comes easy now
Since I've got the pill
It's gettin' dark it's roostin' time
Tonight's too good to be real
Oh but daddy don't you worry none
'Cause mama's got the pill
Oh daddy don't you worry none
'Cause mama's got the pill

PAUL KELLY  "songs from the South: greatest hits" cd, 1997.

Aussie singer/songwriter.
twenty track compilation.
fits as much in folk/americana/country as he does in alt-rock.
another road trip album, again, loving just about everything on here, and why not, it was a road trip,
couldnt pick album to take that i didnt love!.
yeah, good driving album.
one of the best singer/songwriters ever IMO, shame he never got the recognition he deserved outside
of Australia, i guess that is the world's loss, not mine!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

On a crowded beach in a distant time
At the height of summer; see a boy of five
At the water's edge so nimble and free
Jumping over the ripples, looking way out to sea.

Now a man comes up from amongst the throng
Takes the young boy's hand, and his hand is strong
And the child feels safe, yeah, the child feels brave
As he's carried in those arms up and over the waves

Deeper water, deeper water, deeper water, calling him on.

Let's move forward now and the child's seventeen
With a girl in the back seat, tugging at his jeans
And she knows what she wants; she guides with her hand

As a voice cries inside him: "I'm a man! I'm a man!"
Deeper water, deeper water, deeper water, calling him on.

Now the man meets a woman, unlike all the rest
He doesn't know it yet, but he's out of his depth

And he thinks he can run; it's a matter of pride
But he keeps coming back like a cork on the tide.

Well the years hurry by, and the woman loves the man
Then one night in the dark she grabs hold of his hand

Says: "There, can you feel it kicking inside?"
And the man gets a shiver right up and down his spine

Deeper water, deeper water, deeper water, calling him on.

So the clock moves around, and the child is a joy

But Death doesn't care just who it destroys
Now the woamn gets sick, thins down to the bone
She says: "Where I'm going next, I'm going alone."

Deeper water, deeper water
On a distant beach, lonely and wild
At a later time, see a man and a child
And the man takes the child up into his arms
Takes her over the breakers
To where the water is calm.

Deeper water, deeper water
Deeper water, calling them on

ALAN JACKSON "when somebody loves you" cd, 2000

big fan of AJ because he keeps real country alive but occasionally goes all modern on me.
not his best album for me, in fact pretty average.

HANK WILLIAMS III  "greatest hits" cd 2017

he is the Grandson of his Grandfather, Hank Snr.
never sure where to place him, country, outlaw country, punk, alternative, rock, who knows???
pretty sure Outlaw Country is where he would most comfortably sit, but Alternative is equally as fitting.
MH is not a fan, Major Tim is most certainly a fan, im a fan up to a point,
own two of his studio albums and this compilation.
i like his outlaw attitude, his off-beat style but his whiny voice is grating to the ears after a while.
like most of this album, love a couple, dislike a couple.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

best by a country mile for me, this country track off the first album of his i ever heard at Major Tim's in Florida many moons ago.

BOB DYLAN  "new morning" cd, 1970

a recent purchase from a discount bin.
Dylan's eleventh studio set.
his sixth #1 album in the UK and last one until 2009 (together through life).
so, only thing i knew off this album was "if not for you" which i absolutely love whoever sings it.
was thinking it would take a bloody good song to beat this one as my favorite but low and behold i should
never under estimate the quality of Dylan as a songsmith because of the other eleven tracks on here i can honestly
say theres at least seven other which beat that one hands down.
i actually played the album twice yesterday and once already this morning, it is truly another masterpiece from Mr.D
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

i would have posted a track but the ones that are supposedly available are "blocked in my country" WTF!

lyrics to the song i would have picked called Day Of The Locusts (Christ, Dylan is a sarcastic bastard when he wants to be!)

Oh, the benches were stained with tears and perspiration
The birdies were flying from tree to tree
There was little to say, there was no conversation
As I stepped to the stage to pick up my degree
And the locusts sang off in the distance
Yeah, the locusts sang such a sweet melody
Oh, the locusts sang off in the distance
Yeah, the locusts sang and they were singing for me.

I glanced into the chamber where the judges were talking
Darkness was everywhere, it smelled like a tomb
I was ready to leave, I was already walkin'
But the next time I looked there was light in the room
And the locusts sang, yeah, it give me a chill
Oh, the locusts sang such a sweet melody
Oh, the locusts sang their high whining trill
Yeah, the locusts sang and they were singing for me.

Outside of the gates the trucks were unloadin'
The weather was hot, a-nearly ninety degrees
The man standin' next to me, his head was exploding
Well, I was prayin' the pieces wouldn't fall on me
Yeah, the locusts sang off in the distance
Yeah, the locusts sang such a sweet melody
Oh, the locusts sang off in the distance
And the locusts sang and they were singing for me.

I put down my robe, picked up my diploma
Took hold of my sweetheart and away we did drive
Straight for the hills, the black hills of Dakota
Sure was glad to get out of there alive
And the locusts sang, well, it give me a chill
Yeah, the locusts sang such a sweet melody
And the locusts sang with a high whinin' trill
Yeah, the locusts sang and they was singing for me
Singing for me, well, singing for me
