Today's pick. What a voice!!! Unfortunately I can only claim to be one of the things mentioned in the title and it isn't wise...

BEATLES "rubber soul" cd, 1965
their sixth...
their songwriting improves at an astonishing rate.
Lennon's tracks are still far superior to Paul's, but that starts to change after this album...
Lennon's lyrics are definitely on par with Dylan at this time...
final track, Run For Your Life, i still love that one but over the last few years it has turned creepy..
all up, another great album from The Fabs...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
not my favorite but the creepy one...
like "every breath you take", nice melody but disturbing lyrics
Well, I'd rather see you dead, little girl
Than to be with another man
You'd better keep your head, little girl
Or I won't know where I am.
You'd better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girl.
Well, you know that I'm a wicked guy
And I was born with a jealous mind
And I can't spend my whole life tryin'
Just to make you toe the line.
You'd better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girl.
Let this be a sermon
I mean everything I've said
Baby, I'm determined
And I'd rather see you dead

Today's pick - ANOTHER band Simon Phillips played in. Only around 18 or 19 years old at this stage. Incredible. Love the bass player but can't remember his name - Bill McCormack comes to mind but I might be wrong.

^I listened to their only studio album once - helluva lineup. The genealogy of rock is quite fascinating.
Guy Fletcher - High Roads, coincidentally! Forgot about this and had been meaning to listen to it when it was released - two years ago, lol! Oops. Oh well ... the road to hell, etc. Somehow it popped back up on the radar. He's good - an able multi-instrumentalist and he has a decent voice. There are some really nice songs on this and it seems well produced. Several collaborators as well who add interest. MK's trusty sideman for eons, and judging by the views on YouTube he may be getting less attention than he merits ...
These are my favourites for now ...
"Smuggler's Craft" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s83C98nh1Jo
This one with Bruce Molsky which kinda grows on you ... "Another Gale Blows" (and which I can relate to right now!) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB10TamAzFI
"Margaret Set" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NHLyMAFmPc
The title track - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwDHnm04Wug
... and

Gordon Giltrap's Fear of the Dark - I forget how good his so-called trilogy is - Visionary, Perilous Journey and the aforementioned. It really is a mystery that he is not paid more attention. He also had (and still does have) the ability to commandeer the services of excellent additional musicians.
It's all good, but the title track strikes me as a tour de force today ... brilliant strings and great arrangement (Roger Hand), spot on bass (John G Perry), super creative drumming which steps up a notch in the second half of the track (Simon Phillips - never overbearing, always sympathetic), and of course, the ridiculously proficient guitarwork of the maestro himself ...
On to Perilous Journey now ... love all three of these works
