Which led me to Arlo Guthrie because of "City of New Orleans" ... even although that was not written by him, and from there on to ... 



and finally - before getting deeply entrenched in JJ Cale which was quite tempting, moved on to something completely different ...

I actually meant the other Cale - but I hear ya - "Andalucia" is a really good song. Not very well acquainted with the rest of it yet. 

Listening to J.J. Cale's 5 now - super laidback - virtually horizontal ... favourite for today is "Sensitive Kind" - fab song - great instrumentation and arrangements too. And then this, played and sung by MK on the tribute album The Breeze ... closely aligned sounds, the two of them. Only recorded as a demo by Cale - a properly heartfelt one too, I have to say.

four originals written by him, another co written with Uncle Bob, the rest covers...
duets with Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Sinead O'Connor and Mr Dylan...
love "dont give up", superb cover with Sinead, fave is the Dylan duet...
also features Croz and Kris on backing vocals and produced by Don Was...
another consistantly great album from Willie...

ELVIS PRESLEY  "elvis now"  vinyl,  1972.

his sixteenth studio in sixteen years plus all those stupid movie soundtracks he did...
country sounding for the most part including a terrible country style version of Hey Jude, man that was bad!
at least the UK'ers were still loyal to their king with it peaking at #12 out there and the single "until its time for you to go" peaking at #5, the same really cant be said for elsewhere with the album rarely bothering the charts elsewhere...
i thought it was a great album with very good versions of "we can make the morning", "help me make it through the night", "put your hand in the hand", "miracle of the rosary", "early morning rain" and "fools rush in", all of which were/are as good as any version of the songs out there IMO. as i said, only letdown was the abysmal Hey Jude cover....
all up, i know its mainly a covers album but Presley was at his vocal peak between 68-74 IMO...

a blast from the past today with The Boss' sixth studio album Nebraska from 1982...
folk or Americana, call it what you want to...
an acoustic affair,
a concept album of sorts...
all songs deal with the sombre topic of death and/or murder...
songs about murding for love, death row imnates, suicide etc, you get it, right?!...
a masterpiece IMO, but then i rate all of his albums up to and including this one as masterpieces...

June Tabor, Huw Warren and Iain Bellamy, aka Quercus on their first album with ECM, Quercus. June Tabor is brilliant - she takes English folk to new level, and the others are excellent too - piano and sax respectively. I listened to Quercus and their second one with Mr Eicher & Co - Nightfall. Had had enough by the time I got halfway through Nightfall - there's only so much seriousness one can digest in one day! This is beautiful music, make no mistake but I could use something light and frothy now, or loud and rambunctious, to balance it all out! Hmmmm ....

TANYA TUCKER  "delta dawn" cd, 1972

from the newly purchased 4 album set i purchased...
her debut...
had no idea she was only 13 on this one until i Wiki'd the album...
lots of songs about love, sex, viginity and relationships from a female point of view...
all good stuff until you you relaise she was 13 which makes it a bit uncomfortable and creepy at times
and it shows how 'sexualised' the industry made her at that young age...
get around the age thing and it is still a fantastic album IMO

another excellent album from Ms Tucker with brilliant backing vocals from the legendary Jordanaires...
