OASIS "heathen chemistry" cd, 2002
their fifth of seven
my fifth of seven also, LOL...
back to simple rock and roll on this one, no eight minute songs with lengthy solos...
has become my favorite album of theirs over the decades with no less than five of the tracks on this one being in my list of top 25 Oasis tracks of all time...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
favorite:
We the people fight for our existence
We don't claim to be perfect but we're free
We dream our dreams alone with no resistance
Fading like the stars we wish to be.
You know I didn't mean what I just said
But my God woke up on the wrong side of his bed
And it just don't matter now
As little by little we gave you everything you ever dreamed of
Little by little the wheels of your life have slowly fallen off
Little by little you have to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why you're really here?
True perfection has to be imperfect
I know that that sounds foolish but it's true
Day has come, now you'll have to accept
Life inside your head we give to you.
Little by little we gave you everything you ever dreamed of
Little by little the wheels of your life have slowly fallen off
Little by little you have to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why you're really here?
Why am I really here?
Why am I really here?

Darryl Way - Destinations
Fabulous how certain musicians have such an unmistakable signature sound - I find his violin so distinctive. This is an instrumental album, rock/jazz rock/fusion. Some lovely, sweeping cinematic stuff and a good concept allowing for much variety. I wasn't sold on the first track but then again, it's titled "Downtown LA" which probably wouldn't be my thing anyway! Lol! So far I've enjoyed "Stars", "Wild West" and "A Rainy Day in Vienna" which sounds scrumptious. There are a couple of manic numbers which temper the swathes of gentleness - quite entertaining - "The Restless City" is frenetic. Looking forward to "Riviera Blue" and "Mystic Mountain" ... we'll see! Incidentally, he plays a pretty mean guitar too. Armchair travelling it is then!
Ooh yes - "Riviera Blue" living up to expectation ... the start of it at any rate ... there's a tango in there ... wait - I'm on the wrong continent! Doesn't matter - any continent will do - "Antigua Bay" playing now - some reggae vibes ...
Update - "Mystic Mountain" is very nice - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1Yas_jKbvY - one to add to the fabulous last tracks of albums file.

Up early this morning and listening to Camel's 'Rajaz' album. Andy Latimer is a master at phrasing on the guitar. He might not be the flashiest guitar player but boy does he know when to make the notes count. No superfluous nonsense - he just cuts to the chase. Magnificent album.

MK - Privateering. Just wrote a thesis on this this one and deleted it by mistake, lol! Suffice to say - it's good listening for me. A double album - I find myself anticipating around nine of the songs now and each time I hear it, one of the remaining eleven sticks up their hand and says 'Hey! Notice Me!' which means that eventually, I guess I'll know them all really well (even the more noodling ones, and there are a coupla those - sorry MK). Today's noticee ...

A recommendation from Ruby. Vangelis - Rosetta. Marvellous piece of work. The sound is impeccable. Great artwork as well. The lady knows what I like.

JETHRO TULL "thick as a brick"
was talking to someone yesterday about 'desert island' discs and he mentioned this one which jogged my memory..
still think i prefer TAAB-2, but thats my opinion...
good solid album as one would expect from Mr Anderson and Co...
had no idea until i checked Wiki that he was basically lampooning Prog when we recorded this...
either way,
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Camel - Stationary Traveller
There some parts of this that really reflect the times - early 80's - it's not my favourite Camel album by any means but I do especially love "Fingertips" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6TDWwpByzM and the magnificent title track ...
