KINGS OF LEON "because of the times" cd, 2007
their third (anyone noticed a pattern forming here?).....
holding on to their southern rock feel here, but not fully grasping it,
elements of (dare i say it?!) U2 here and there with the guitars sounding like The Edge in places,
prominent bass and synths at times too but still a genuine rock sound overall.
songs are definitiely sounding more intricate and the band more confident with stepping outside their confort zone also...
more of what we would call an altrnative rock sound here...
their first to peak at #1 in the UK, will take anothoer album to do so in Australia (#4) and Canada and America finally starting to come on board (#31 and #25 respectively)
all up another great album from the band, a solid 2.7 rating here...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

KINGS OF LEON "ONLY_BY_THE_NIGHT" cd, 2008
their fourth...
they exploded into the stratosphere with this one,
#1 just about everywhere, "sex on fire", a #1 mega-hit everywhere and "use somebody" a huge hit everywhere...
a slightly more commercial sound than the previous three albums but still distinctly KOL...
a solid album but radio overkilled a couple of the tracks for me...
would rate 2.4 on the old rating system

KINGS OF LEON "come around sundown" cd, 2010
their fifth...
more pop than rock this time round
more synths in the fore ahead of guitars also for the most part...
just a light album compared to previous albums....
#1 in UK, AU, and Canada, #2 in their homeland...
3x platinum UK, twice platinum in Australia and solitary platinum Canada, Gold in the US....
my least favorite album of theirs but still scores a respectable 2.2.

KINGS OF LEON "mechanical bull" cd 2013
their sixth...
back to what theyre good at here, synths almost gone
taking the best elements of their previous albums and combined them in one package
#1 or #2 in countries it counts,
gold or platinum in those countries also...
my favorite album of theirs for sure scoring a high 2.8 from me
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

David Gilmour - About Face
Several noticeable things about this album, not least the stupendous drumming of Jeff Porcaro. Shucks. What a loss - he was so very good.
The second of two singles - lyrics by Pete Townshend ...
Awesome final track - love the timbre of Mr Gilmour's voice on this one ... seems a comfortable register for him ...

KINGS OF LEON "WALLS" cd, 2016
their seventh of eight....
firstly: title is an acronym for "we all like love songs"...
secondly: theres something about this album cover that i love....
another sound direction change here...
more mellow for the most part, mellow as in softer rock...
songs have lovely harmonies ans melodies and the multi layering in the music is great...
"all around the world" has an almost tropical beach calypso feel,
"muchacho" has a bit of a latino feel to it so they are wideing their musical horizons...
only problem i have with it is that it doesnt really have any highlights, its just a good album...
a top 3 peaking album in most territories, 'gold' status inmost also...
album would still rate a respectable 2.2 from me, making it their equal least favorite album of theirs for me...

Supertramp - Brother Where You Bound. Despite it being cold war oriented, some of the songs remain relevant IMHO and the music is excellent. Crime of the Century it's not but they were still very, very good, no question about it, even without Roger ... just a little different. The blistering opener - Dougie Thompson's persistent bass holding it tight ...
And that was followed by Sky 2 - also excellent music. Tired of listening to pretenders - there is very little new output that can compare to these guys, or that even attempts to! Hmm that sentence looks weird. Sometimes they do that. Lol!
Going with the opener of this album as well ...

QUEEN "hot space" cd, 1982
well that was bloody aweful! (well started off pretty bad anyway!)...
first five tracks and i had no idea whether i was listening to Spandau Ballet, Haircut 100, Wham! or Soft Cell because its sure as hell wasnt Queen!...
it was synth driven. funk, disco and dance music...
the second half was better for sure, some guitars but no classic Brian May riffs.
Cool Cat was great, loved Freddie's soaring vocals, the John Lennon tribute ( Life Is Real) is a masterpiece and Under Pressure with David Bowie, need i say more?!?
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM (but it has its glorious moments!)
fave...
