What Are You Listening To?

AC/DC  "flick of the switch" cd, 1983

their nineth, but third with Brian Johnson on lead vocals...
without a doubt their worst album cover also, on par with "landing on water" (NY)...
not a huge seller by their standards only selling a couple of million copies worldwide...
not a bad album, would score a 1.9 if i scored it properly....
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

PANTERA  "cowboys from hell" cd, 1990.

their fifth of nine,
metal/thrash band,
part of the so-called "big four", the others being Metallica, Slayer and Megadeath...
first 'major label' release and first to chart anywhere...
at least half of this is thrash (like early Metallica), some real metal (like Iron Maiden)
and a power ballad.
not a bad album at the start but wears thin after a few tracks becuase it all sounds the same.

BLACK SABBATH  "VOL 4"  cd,  1972

another revisit...
i generally love this album, but im normally listening under the cans.
on this occasion i had it playing in the car and it really didnt sound that great as a 'driving' album...
i think it needed a distraction free environment to appreciate it fully but normally...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM (just not whilst im driving!)

favourite is still this classic ballad:

I feel unhappy, I feel so sad
I've lost the best friend that I ever had
She was my woman, I loved her so
But it's too late now, I've let her go

I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes.

We shared the years, we shared each day
In love, together, we found the way
But soon, the world had its evil way
My heart was blinded, love went astray

I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes.

It took so long to realise
And I can still hear her last goodbyes
Now all my days are filled with tears
Wish I could go back and change these years

I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes

KISS  "alive III' cd, 1993

from their then "revenge world tour"...
probably the heaviest most metal sounding of their live albums
not surprising since most of their material over the previous five or so years was quite heavy...
does contain the usual suspects, Deuce, I Was Made For Lovin' You, R+R All Nite, Detroit Rock City etc
but also a lot of tracks off the then "revenge" studio album (their best for me)..
i still think i prefer 1975's "alive!" because it is classic original Kiss, but this is pretty darn solid also...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

and the memories of this tour come flooding back watching the clip!

AC/DC  "back in black"  cd/vinyl  1980.

a revisit...
and what a revisit, the greatest hard rock album of all time IMO...
some 50 million worldwide sales, not bad for a band who rehashes the same songs year in-year out LOL...
a hard rock masterpiece and the one i judge all others by...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

the single that turned me on to the band:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

ROB ZOMBIE  "hellbelly deluxe" cd, 1998

a revisit...
his debut of seven,
my first of three...
nu-metal/industrial metal are what the experts call it...
sounds like Marilyn Manson in places so you get the idea...
an excellent album from the genre IMO
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

the debut single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

AYREON   "the source" cd, 2017

not mine but borrowed from a work colleague...
double disc set, listened to the first disc only at this stage...
prog-rock/prog-metal band...
eleven lead vocalists on here including James LaBrie (dream theater), Tobias Sammet (avantasia) and Floor Jansen (nightwish), the others i am not aware of...
being Prog it is a concept album (all 2 discs and 90 minutes)...
something to do with humanoids on a distant planet giving too much power to the AI's...
was a bit disappointed with the first track but thankfully it got better from there...
theres some metal, orchestrations and folky moments contained within and i must admit i prefer the quieter times overall...
so far pretty good and looking forward to hearing the second disc over the next few days as i take a break from 2022 releases and my own collection.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fave from one listen of disc one:

MARILYN MANSON  "the golden age of grotesque" cd, 2003

a revisit
their fifth of eleven, my first of four
some catchy hard rock/metal on here
even hints of Glam Rock in one or two places
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

this one has Glam rock written all over it:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

AC/DC  "back in black" cd/vinyl 1980

a revisit from a recently finished roadtrip..
one of my go to albums for a long drive...
the second biggest selling studio album of all time according to Wikipedia with a colossal 50 million units sold...
the greatest hard rock album ever IMO, all killer and no filler!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
