THE ZOMBIES "odessey & oracle" cd, 1968.
their second of two, (a previously unreased album entitled "r.i.p" ended up getting issued in 2000)...
hearing bits of Small Faces in their quiet moments, some Beach Boys in their melodic moments, good solid allround late '60s pop and very autumnal feeling like some of Traffic's material to name a few 'sounds likes'....
album received mixed reviews and failed to chart back in the day leading to the implosion and break up of the group...
it is strange that it didnt sell though because it did contain the mega-hit "time of the season"...
probably in my top 20 albums of all time list (if i had one, which might be a fun idea to compile at some point!)...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
we all know the hit "time of the season" so here is something else:
and this one:

STEELY DAN "remastered: the best of, then and now" cd, 1993
a sixteen track compilation compiled from 72-80...
loving most of these tunes and liking the remainder...
a pleasant revisit on this occasion...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
picked this one to post this time:

^^I think Rod Argent is brilliant. Quite like some of his solo stuff.
Today, it's Sailing to Philadelphia. Not the most consistent of his albums but even so, there are some great songs - wonderful title track.

"Sailing to Philadelphia" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4AwxdsB518
"Silvertown Blues" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GIeOxMsSn8
And the haunting "Sands of Nevada" ...
Coincidentally, I have just seen that David Knopfler has a new album out. Listened to one track. Terrible voice - such a shame!

MEAT LOAF "midnight at the lost and found" cd, 1983...
his third of twelve....
a huge disappointment after the first two and still disappointing to this day iMO...
lacklustre basic rock after the bombastic cliched Steinman songs but its no better or worse than the other 'hair bands' that were emerging at that time...
album just passes the grade, but barely.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
the lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

MEAT LOAF "bad attitude" cd, 1984
his fourth of twelve (yes i own 'em all)...
another album of very average songs but Mr Steinman did write two...
slightly harder rocking than the previous album but that still doesnt save it...
barelymakes the passing grade....
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
title track, lead off single and additional vocals by Mr Daltry
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

MEAT LOAF "blind before i stop" cd, 1986.
his fifth of twelve...
heavy on the synths on this one,
but then again all the hard rock dudes were utilising them during this period...
much better than the last couple of albums but still not a classically sliced loaf by any means..
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
favourite and lead off single with John Parr on joint vocals...
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

MEAT LOAF "hell in a handbasket" cd, 2011
his eleventh of twelve (and final one i needed to post)....
released in Australia in 2011, not released anywhere else till 2012 (six months later)....
used to hate the album cover until i looked closely and realised they were skulls within the circle/orb....
a surprisingly good rock album considering his vocals arent what they used to be in days long since gone...
loving at least half of this one and liking the rest except for the cringeworthy cover of California Dreamin' (whatever possessed him!??)...
a couple of duets with his long time female co-lead Patti Russo, elsewhere Chuck D from Public Enemy turns up as a 'sampling' and another Lil, Lil Jon (whom im not familliar with pops up on another track), but like i said, still an excellent album with several country tinges throughout..
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
favourite (a ballad with Ms Russo)
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

DAVID BOWIE "nothing has changed" cd, 2014
back to an old favourite today (and yesterday)...
a two cd compilation, 39 track set, spanning '69's Space Oddity thru 2014's "sue (or in a season of crime)"...
i love the way that the tracks are in chronological order to show the progression of him as an artist...
just about as a good a set of singles as you could possibly get...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
lets go for one from 2002 this time round:
Said you took a big trip
They said you moved away
Happened oh, so quietly
They say
Shoulda took a picture
Something I could keep
Buy a little frame
Something cheap
For you
Everyone says hi...
Said you sailed a big ship
Said you sailed away
Didn't know the right thing
To say
I'd love to get a letter
Like to know what's what
Hope the weather's good
And it's not too hot
For you
Everyone says hi
Everyone says hi....
Everyone says
Don't stay in a sad place
Where they don't care how you are
Everyone says hi....
If the money is lousy
You can always come home
We can do the old things
We can do all the bad things
If the food gets you leery
You can always phone
We could do all the good things
We could do it, we could do it,
We could do it
Don't stay in a bad place
Where they don't care how you are.
Everyone says hi
Everyone says hi
Everyone says hi
And the girl next door
And the guy upstairs
Everyone says hi
And your mum and dad
Everyone says hi
And your big fat dog
Everyone says hi
Everyone says hi
Hi, hi, hi, hi
