BON JOVI "cross road" cd, 1994
compilation
hits covering their first handful of albums...
this is classic rock from one of the last genuine rock bands around..
excellent collection of great rock singles IMO.
only own a couple and embarrassed to say thats all i do have...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
promo single for this compilation:
Hey, man
I'm alive I'm takin' each day
And night at a time
I'm feelin' like a Monday
But someday I'll be Saturday night.
Hey, my name is Jim
Where did I go wrong
My life's a bargain basement
All the good shit's gone
I just can't hold a job
Where do I belong
I'm sleeping in my car
My dreams move on.
My name is Billy Jean
My love was bought and sold
I'm only sixteen
I feel a hundred years old
My foster daddy went
Took my innocence away
The street life ain't much better
But at least I get paid.
And Tuesday just might go my way
It can't get worse than yesterday
Thursdays, Fridays ain't been kind
But somehow I'll survive.
Hey, man
I'm alive I'm takin' each day
And night at a time
Yeah, I'm down
But I know I'll get by
Hey-hey-hey-hey, man
I'm gotta live my life
Like I ain't got nothin'
But this roll of the dice
I'm feelin' like a Monday
But someday I'll be Saturday night.
Now I can't say my name
And tell you where I am
I want to blow myself away
Don't know if I can
I wish that I could be
In some other time and place
With someone else's soul
Someone else's face.
Oh, Tuesday just might go my way
It can't get worse than yesterday
Thursdays, Fridays ain't been kind
But somehow I'll survive

CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG - 4 Way Street
Long time since I listened to this album. All four of them are so distinctly different from one another - it's evident on their individually penned tracks. Strikes me as miraculous they ever got together in the first place! CS&N without Y too. Harmonious in voice yes, but in few other areas.
The main reason for listening - I always think of this song when taking a stroll on an empty beach ...

TINA TURNER "break every rule" cd, 1986
her sixth solo album
theres not many female artists you can say are genuine rockers, but Tina is surely one of them...
Grammy award winner for "best rock vocal", her third in as many albums...
just looking at Wiki and seeing her latter day career and she never became a parody of herself, i guess she knew when to hang it up...
quality artist from the get-go and never failed to impressed me...
another good solid rock album from Mizz turner
I LIKE THIS ALUBM

BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD "buffalo springfield again" cd, 1967
a re-visit...
its been a while...
their second of three...
folk, folk-rock, psychedelic folk-rock...
Neil actually gets three or four on here but it is still Stills' band IMO...
The Croz co-writes one with Stills and provides backing vocals on one or two...
favorite on here this time round is Richie Furay's country tinged tune...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
fave:
Well there goes another day
Now I wonder why
You and I
Keep telling lies
I can't believe that what you say
'cause tomorrows lullaby
can't passify
my lonesome crying
Make believe that's all you know
And to make believe is a game
A child's rein
You've changed your name
So sadly I watched the show
I watched you became
Truth is the shame
Yeah, too much pain

BEATLES "revolver" cd, 1966
revisit...
their seventh...
had forgotten how good this one was...
nothing from the period sounds like this at all...
its the album that blew Brian Wilson's mind and inspired him to write "pet sounds"...
pop/rock orchestrations, crystal clear production, distorted guitars, backwards guitar loops,
double tracked vocals, harmoniums, french horns etc etc the list of non-rock instruments go on and on...
McCartney at his best writing to date, "for no one", "here there and everywhere". "eleanor rigby", "good day sunshine" and "got to get you into my life" (often dubbed the first Wings track)...
Lennon with his psychedelic rock,
George with possibly the greatest guitar sounds up to that point on "and your bird can sing" and the birth of what we would now call World Music with his sitar drenched "love to you"...
and Ringo warbling that super catchy earworm "yellow submarine"..
in a way, this album contained the earliest versions of what is now called "symphonic rock"...
one can never underestimate this album and its influence on what followed it...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
lets go for George Harrison's Indian influenced World Music...
Each day just goes so fast
I turn around, it's past
You don't get time to hang a sign on me
Love me while you can
Before I'm a dead old man
A lifetime is so short
A new one can't be bought
But what you've got means such a lot to me
Make love all day long
Make love singing songs
Make love all day long
Make love singing songs
There's people standing round
Who'll screw you in the ground
They'll fill you in with all their sins, you'll see
I'll make love to you
If you want me to

ROLLING STONES "goats head soup" cd, 1973
Huh?
surprised i havent posted this previously...
never even noticed that was Sir Mick on the cover neither, maybe it would have been obvious on vinyl...
i shouldnt play and post these guys after Beatles as i always find them redundant when i do...
their music rarely sounds innovative to me and for the most part like they are redoing the same crap over and over again but for some reason, not in a good way like AC/DC..weird???
and this is the exact reason these guys bore me for the most part...
its not a bad album, maybe it sounded better back in the early 1970s, i dont know??...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
still an all time favorite song ever for me, and theres two "official promo clips for it:
OMG, Mick looks so 'gay' in this clip...
okay, so maybe "gay" isnt the right word, maybe it is "androgyny" instead??

QUEEN "the miracle" cd, 1989.
a revisit...
their thirteenth studio album of fifteen...
album sounds like a disjointed mess in places...
too much of everything but not enough of anything as they cram styles that dont belong on Queen albums IMO...
only 'real' Queen song is "i want it all" and several years earlier this wouldnt have qualified as a b-side of a single...
its not that the songs are overly terrible, theyre not, theyre just average songs for such a phenomenal band...
lots of double tracking and studio effects on Freddie's vocals also (had AIDS weakened his vocals that much???)...
all up, although listenable its not really a go-to Queen album, just a random pick and play album...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM (but only just)
lets go for this little Latino song...
I can see it in your stars
Life is so exciting,
Acting so bizarre
Your world is so inviting
Playing really cool
And looking so mysterious
Your every day is full of sunshine
But into every life a little rain must fall.
Anyone who imagines
They can blind you with science
Bully you all over
With property and finance
But you have position
To call the shots and name the price
You found success and recognition
But into every life a little rain must fall
You lead a fairy tale existence
But into every life a little rain must fall
Others seem to think
You are over dramatising
Problems at work
So it's hardly surprising
There's little you can do
To alter their opinions
You want a clean reputation
But now you're facing complications
'Cos into every life a little rain must fall
