Listened to the new John Illsley, VIII, in the hope he’d got himself a lead vocalist, but nope, sadly not. All the elements are there - except a decent vocal. I wonder why no-one’s told him he shouldn’t sing? A bit harsh, I know, but seriously – it’s a terrible shame! His lyrics are good and everything else is fine – all a bit frustrating. I couldn’t sit through the whole thing, or did I?? Lol! Would much prefer an instrumental album from him. The Dire Straits sound persists with Scot McKeon taking his cue from MK … the backing vocalist has a good voice, at least …

nice track Ruby,
yeah, vocals leave a bit to be desired for sure but i think they work to a degree with that weathered/worn feel (for one track anyway LOL)
im pretty sure i would find it frustrating listening to a whole album though which is sad because as you said, the music is excellent.

The Chateau in question - sounds like a pretty unusual place. Some people found it very difficult to record there (Jethro Tull). Others produced their best work there (Elton John). Vincent van Gough is buried nearby. Bowie refused to sleep in the main bedroom.

Must get some more Steely Dan stuff. Only have a handful of their albums.

Barclay James Harvest - Face to Face
This album gets short shrift for venturing too far on the side of pop for BJH followers. Funny though - it sounded to me as though they were a lot more 'definite' for want of a better way of putting it. There's a kinda brothers Gibb vibe going on in some places. Skip straight over the diabolical "Panic" though, which is what might have done the dirty on it in the first place! Jeez. They seem elusive somehow - don't know what it is??

I just find the later albums by BJH to be very weak in terms of songwriting and the lyrics are bland at best. They were just going through the motions in the later years.
