They did a farewell tour in 2014 although she made an acoustic album last year, in October, revisiting a selection of their hits - just her and a pianist. Fabulous voice - very distinctive, and she has flair. Also a realist, Ms Klein recognised that her voice wasn't equal to some of what she'd done before so they adapted the repertoire on that acoustic album to suit her capabilities.

Her fame was hard won - she'd been singing since the age of 17 and only got recognition at thirty four. She also took a three year hiatus mid-career when all the stress caused her to lose her hair, temporarily. On Thursday, January 26th, 2023 she will receive a Lifetime Achievement award from the Flemish MIA's (Music Industry Awards).

Possibly my alltime favourite ...

Saw her in Cape Town many moons ago - probably one of the best live concerts I have ever been to. A class act!

Per Gessle was born on this day in 1959, in Halmstad, Sweden. Best known outside of this home country as the driving force behind Roxette.

He had pursued a musical career prior to forming Roxette and is also successful solo artist in Sweden, having scooped up awards there, left right and center. He, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and two other parties own a company called NoteHeads which publishes the scorewriter, Igor Engraver, for Mac and Windows.

Mr Gessle’s brand of pop is not my thing at all (nor is Roxette’s) but I will always associate him with the great compassion, respect and support he showed to Marie Fredriksson when they toured while she was so very ill. The man has a big heart.

His solo album Mazarin made a huge splash on the Swedish charts some time ago. I quite like the sound of this track and it might even be a good thing I have no clue what the lyrics are!
