What Are You Listening To?
Another random listen - for the helluvit, hadn't heard it before - 10cc's Ten Out Of 10 which is a bit presumptive! Lol! Unlikely to listen again as it did not score that high for me, although there are a couple of decent tracks.

They did have their moments (some of them a little incongruously reggae inspired) ... this is not one of those, it's a ballad ... a lot of their stuff just hasn't stayed the distance, IMHO. Essentially not bad songwriting, or music - just not enough, somehow ...  Confused

STYX  "paradise theatre"  vinyl, 1981

a gift from a friend...
second hand vinyl that is laser-etched on one side...
the band's tenth and their biggest seller...
i know very little of Styx other than "kilroy was here" from 1983 which i love...
a pleasant listen on a first up listen...
love Dennis DeYoung's vocal quality and tones, but also love the fact that the other members take on vocal duties at times also...
sound seems to be in line with what i am familiar with and from a first up listen....
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

^Dennis DeYoung put his heart and soul into everything he did, like it or not. There is some merit in that. "Boat of the River" is very fab - from Cornerstone, before he and Tommy Shaw fell out, which they did at some stage of the proceedings - not sure when! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9Qs8-BkiLw

Listening to Colin Masson's Anvil of the North, on YT due to having to reconfigure my sound system which I just haven't got to! For some reason, there seems to be very heavy bass on this platform, in certain places, unless I'm mistaken?? Don't recall that booming from the CD. Best I get things sorted out quickly then! He really is such a talent. Love all his CD's - right up my street.

BTW - can you guys get my links? Just curious.

"A Ship on the Desert"

"Das Tal"

Colin Masson is brilliant, i have just three albums and all are great and emotive.

loved both tracks you linked Ruby.

would love to hear a collaboration between him and Knopfler, that would be awesome

PAUL WELLER  "stanley road" cd, deluxe 2cd, 10th anniversary 3cd set, vinyl, 7" singles box set, super deluxe cd  1995

a revisit...
only played today to play for a friend who has limited knowledge of Weller's solo material...
had forgotten how many editions of this album i had...
friend thought it was great and labelled it a 'masterpiece'..
big call but everyone has their own opinion i guess..
album wouldnt rate in my top 5 Weller albums but i understand the love for it...
a solid collection of rock, pop, gospel, blue-eyed soul, ballads, love songs and even a blistering cover of Dr.John's "i walk on gilded splinters"...
guest musos include Noel Gallagher, Steve Winwood, Mick Talbot and Carleen Anderson to name a few...
album cover painted by Peter Blake (famous for the Sgt.Peppers cover and Who's "face dances" to name a couple)....
so yes i guess all of the boxes were ticked and the stars alligned  for this one...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

a love song for the ages:
