^^
featured high on one or two EOY lists so i thought i best give it a whirl
and the art work just intrigued me as to what the music could be
glad it gave you some respite from the usual chart rubbish

PAUL WELLER "fat pop (volume 1)" cd/vinyl 2021
a revisit
his sixteenth solo studio album...
still really undecided and slightly unconvinced about the quality of this album at times...
theres some cool songs on it as per normal for a Weller album but other songs just feel like filler (or similar to what he would put on
b-sides of singles a couple of decades ago...
overall, its not bad for a man who has been constantly releasing albums since 1977..
favourite:

HOODOO GURUS "blue cave" cd/vinyl 1996
a revisit...
Aussie alt-rockers seventh of ten since their debut thirty-nine years ago...
had only owned the vinyl until a friend gave me the cd as a gift a couple of days ago...
never really enjoyed the sound quality of the vinyl which left me underwhelmed with the album as a whole until now...
cd on in car over the last couple of days and definitely impressed with it now...
a harder edged sound on this one but still stereotypical Gurus' vibes...
interesting instrumental on here which pays homage to Shadows/Hank Marvin presumably with its sound...
solid alt-rock album and fast becoming a favourite of mine by the band....
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
lead off single, worth a listen if youre a fan:

FINN BROTHERS "finn", cd 1995
a revisit
the first of two duo albums recorded by the fabulous Neil and Tim Finn..
has all of the eclectic, off-beat kookiness one would expect from the pair but also pure class in its delivery...
album has an almost Lo-Fi vibe of McCartney's debut solo record also...
great stuff from the pair but there was still better to come IMO...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
went for the lead off single on this occasion:

THE EELS "electro-shock blues" 1998
not mine but borrowed from a friend....
was curious as i only have one album by them which i like...
American indi-rock/alt-rock band...
this is their second album...
nothing not to like on here and plenty to love...
hearing bits of Bad Seeds in some of the music and to the other extreme Sonic Youth in others...
solid album with very few negatives to contemplate...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
favourite is the lead off single that i was not aware of until i checked Wiki.

HEAVY VEGETABLE "frisbies" 1995
not mine, borrowed from a friend...
from California
third of four albums released..
28 tracks, just about all are under two minutes in duration
hearing bits of Primus, Sonic Youth, Weezer etc (you get the picture im sure)...
liking very little of this album, in fact there was nothing memorable about it IMO.
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
best of a bunch of rotten veggies:

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS "the boatman's call" cd, 1997
a revisit of another classic album...
their tenth studio album...
my favourite of theirs..
mainly piano based tunes influenced by Cave's brief romance with PJ Harvey...
its emotive, ethereal, surreal and is as good lyrically as anything written by Mr Dylan.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
seriously, this is as good as songwriting gets IMO, a masterpiece:
I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms...
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms.
And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my arms...
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms.
And I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candlew burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermore...
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms.

DAVID BOWIE "lodger" cd/vinyl 1979
a revisit of another classic album...
his thirteenth and third and final Eno "berlin trilogy" release...
rock, pop, new wave, post-punk, and world music which is why it fits best in alternative...
some of his finest vocal performances are on this one including on the linked track...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
love his vocal range on this track:
In the event that this fantastic voyage
Should turn to erosion and we never get old
Remember it's true, dignity is valuable
But our lives are valuable, too.
We're learning to live with somebody's depression
And I don't want to live with somebody's depression
We'll get by, I suppose
It's a very modern world, but nobody's perfect
It's a moving world, but that's no reason
To shoot some of those missiles
Think of us as fatherless scum
It won't be forgotten
'Cause we'll never say anything nice again, will we?
And the wrong words make you listen
In this criminal world
Remember it's true, a loyalty is valuable
But our lives are valuable, too.
We're learning to live with somebody's depression
And I don't want to live with somebody's depression
We'll get by, I suppose
But any sudden movement and I've got to write it down
They wipe out an entire race and I've got to write it down
But I'm still getting educated but I've got to write it down
And it won't be forgotten
'Cause I'll never say anything nice again, how can I?

a revisit...
amazing how one band can evolve from being totally out there in left-field to being a pop radio station staple in a matter of a few short years,
also, from having a cult following audience to being loved by the general public in that same short period...
love the compilation and love the band, great stuff indeed...
a late career single with elements of both their earlier sounds and latter day vibes
