WILLIE NELSON ".....sings kristofferson" cd, 1979
a revisit...
his 23rd studio album...
a tribute to his good friend Kris Kristofferson...
some good versions on here and some God awful ones as he tries to reinvent them in places...
all up a passable album but nowhere near his best
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
fave but i do not love it, just like it

WILLIE NELSON "the troublemaker" cd, 1976.
a revisit...
his 20th studio album...
tracks were recorded between 73-76...
a county Gospel album,
half covers, half traditional Gospel...
album got its title because Willie was labelled a 'troublemaker' in the eyes of his label...
anyway,
album is okay, nothing to love on here except for his vocal tones which i have always loved...
a couple of dud tracks but mostly passable...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
a good song by whoever sings it:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

WILLIE NELSON "to lefty from willie" cd, 1977.
a revisit...
his twenty-first studio album...
this one is a covers set, a tribute to his #1 musical idol Lefty Frizzell...
to be honest i have never heard anything by Frizzell so these are still not covers to me...
a solid album with a collection of very good songs IMO
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
i do not have a favourite on this album but this is a fun feelgood song whoever sings it

INDIGO GIRLS "swamp ophelia" 1994.
once again, borrowed from a good friend...
had never heard any of their albums so curiosity got the best of me...
experts call them folk-rock so was a toss up between soft rock and folk as to where i put this album...
some very good tracks and some not so good but overall pretty good...
not a band i care to delve further in to but still passable...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
favourite:

borrowed from a good friend,
not because i do not know it but because my music is still all packed up after my recent house move...
i own the three studio albums by Messers Jennings, Kristofferson, Nelson and Cash as you all would expect but this is a compilation of those three albums and some other recordings by the artists themselves...
excellent album of 'outlaw country'...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
fave has always been this one whoever sings it:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

GOVE SCRIVENER "shady gove" vinyl, 1977
from Connecticut...
second album of seven, only thing i own...
had toured with Buffet and Carter Family amongst others, so has credibility in country/folk circles...
nice album, nothing spectacular nor is there anything bad..

ELVIS COSTELLO & THE IMPOSTERS "the delivery man" cd, 2004
his twenty-fourth studio album
first time posting on MD...
i didnt know where to post this, alternative, rock or country...
i decides country because at least half the album could be deemed 'alternative country' or 'country-esque' in nature...
fourteen tracks, three are duets with Emmy-Lou and one, a duet with Lucinda Williams...
T-Bone Burnette co-wrote one track and theres a couple of covers which include:
Dave Bartholomew's "the monkey" and James Carr's "the dark end of the street", both of which are excellent, which helps when youre not familiar with the originals.
Tom Waits actually rates this as one of favourite albums of all time, fans are generally divided about this album but i love it...
album would score 2.4 if i could be bothered posting scores for each track...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
one of the Emmy-Lou duets:

his third solo album...
folk, country, americana and a couple of rock tracks here...
solid collection of songs and more consistent than the follow up "harvest" IMO
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
fave is an absolute masterpiece IMO.
