MANFRED MANN "the five faces of manfred mann" cd, 1964
their UK debut album,
same title as their second US album but an almost totally different tracklist...
three old blues covers on here, several jazzy tunes but all round r+b throughout...
as a footnote i took my mum to see The Manfreds' live just prior to the whole covid thing and they were fantastic.
both singers (Paul Jones and his replacement Mike D'Abo) were both there so we got the entire career spanning eras...
met the band after the show and they were so down to earth, my mum had her photo taken with Paul Jones and she was absolutely beside herself as he was her 'crush' growing up..
anyway, back on track, a solid album but slightly too bluesy in places for me to say i love it,
that said it is a good album and rates at
2.2 which means...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
fave

MANFRED MANN "mann made" cd, 1965
their second UK album,
fourth in the US due to Capitol Records dong their then 'pick and match' track selection of UK'ers albums...
excellent album even though half od it was covers, some soul/r+b and some blues...
two albums and twelve singles releases in the UK up to this point and not one single was from either album so far...
album would rank 2.4 for me which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
fave was this one (an international release single but not UK single):

Today's pick - my favourite piece of music, from my favourite album with an AI generated video to boot. Mesmerizing stuff.

Jon and Vangelis -
The Friends of Mr Cairo
I like that Anderson improvised the lyrics on "State of Independence" - that's pretty cool IMHO. Been having a bit of a Vangelis fest lately!

From the annals of the obscure - Clearlight - Impressionist Symphony. The brainchild of one Cyrille Verdeaux and a band that's been going since the early 70's. Symphonic progressive rock - instrumental. From France - naturellement! A concept album based on various impressionist painters (whose artworks grace the booklet) and attempting to embody their particular style in sound. Works for me - not sure that the artists would agree - except Gaugin maybe! Something off the well worn track - I like that. This album is from 2014.

^Would be nice to be in the eye of the storm! Relentlessly nasty weather systems seem to be endless over here.
Thought I'd listen to something lightish this morning - to jolly things up a bit. Some of the biggest names (and voices) in rock appear on this album - nice and warm ... Roger Glover and Friends -
The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast ...
Best for me on this listening - two tracks with Ronnie James Dio ...
"Sitting in a Dream" -

"Love is All" -

... and the short but fabulous "Behind the Smile" with David Coverdale - I like the syncopation, and voice, of course ... suitably creepy ... not sure which critter he's referring to but the message is clear!
