The album bombed in the states at #150, but what do they know. Stupid yankees. The UK had it all figured out as the album reached #2 and remained on their charts for 33 weeks. Morrissey and Johnny Marr couldn't be better. The cover is a still shot from the Andy Warhol film Flesh. And all these live clips.......whoo-hoo! Voltaire - various tracks
Taking a quick break from the recs - My daughter and I sync on the same iTunes so suddenly I have 7 albums of this guy's music ( one of which is an 4 song EP all about Star Trek (The Next Generation)) so I am just browsing. My best attempt at a description is 'steampunk Smiths' - pretty entertaining and funny in parts. Anyone who sings a song about the Industrial Revolution can't be all bad.

I prefer Goddards vocals much more than Taylor, but I think Taylor wins out here. That and being a bit heavy on the techno side leaves me not caring for this too much. A few decent tracks. Slush would have been cooler without that homina-homina-homina stuff. I kept waitin' for Jackie Gleason to come on. The title track single was released back in November. Next single is Take It In. Reaching their peak in the early 90's in the UK, but never finding much success in the US. Going through numerous lineup changes early on, it took some time to reach critical acclaim. With seven studio albums to their credit, this is a compilation of their early work on Fire records before establishing any sort of fame.
