Gary Mallaber was born on this day in 1946, in Buffalo, New York. He is a drummer and percussionist, and he plays the vibraphone, all of which he did on a good few of Van Morrisonâs albums, beginning with Moondance, after having heard Astral Weeks and then seeking Van out in an East Village nightclub.
He initially had a band named Raven which seems to have released only one album, but which also opened for some big acts in the seventies - Led Zep, for example; he was a fairly longstanding member of the Steve Miller Band, and has done session work for an astonishing and diverse array of musoâs from Joan Armatrading to Eddie Money, Paul Williams, and not least, The Boss (http://www.garymallaber.com/discography.html). This is a cool interview where he talks about the latter - gives you a very good idea of Bruce Springsteen's committment to, and involvement in his projects - [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpJWoz8ZI4s"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpJWoz8ZI4s
