Been a long time since I've pulled out a Stones album. Makes it all the better. Surprised how high this one comes
out. I'm more a fan of the earlier years, yet this one hit the spot. Don't think I would have loved most of these
when the album came out. Time changes everything. Only thing I remember loving on here initially was Far Away Eyes,
and it's still my favorite. Must be Mick trying to sound country. Done as a parody I'm sure, but it's a classic for
me. A fantastic live clip for that track. This is the groups 16th studio album. Hard to say when their peak was. It
was a long peak. Another #1 album for them here. Punk was setting in and the Stones were eager for the battle. Some
new blood as Ronnie Wood had just come on board as a full time member. This album is the groups all time best
seller showing 6 million copies in the U.S. alone as of 2000. It contains the groups last #1 U.S. single in Miss
You. Respectable and Shattered were also singles. Richards takes a vocal turn on Before They Make Me Run which is
credible. Only thing I don't like on here is the remake of the Temptation's Just My Imagination. Almost as bad as
Dancing In The Street. Sorry, it sucked.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Imagination

Best Track - Far Away Eyes

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, "You know you always have the
Lord by your side"

And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you lord

I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time I got there she'd be off
She'd be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin in the corner
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
Was a girl with far away eyes

So if you're down on your luck
And you can't harmonize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of Jesus
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California
And next week they'd say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer, and a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got

So if you're down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Stumbled upon an old Yes album today that I have not heard for years. Yesterdays. Was surprised by how 'fresh' it sounded. Volume was upped accordingly.

pretty sure i gave this 2.8 in the NY guide, one of the greatest albums ever made, up there with Stevie's "innervisions", Marvin's "whats going on" and NY'd "tonights the night" IMO!

AC/DC "live" cd,1992.

one of Dani's cd's,she has quite a few Acca-Dacca albums, i only have three from memory for some reason?
recorded on their 1991 Razor's Edge World Tour.
unlike MH, i actually enjoy listening to live albums, they tend to give a sense of perspective for me as to how good or not so good a band are without all the studio "spit and polish".
it was obvious to me that this one was going to be good to great as AC/Dc always were a great live pub rock band...they just changed to performing at pubs that held 30,000 people instead of a few hundred.
very profficient musicians that can do what they do in the studio on the stage also IMO.
however....and heres the negative part.....Brian johnson's vocals after only a decade in the spotlight seem to lack the real punch of those on the studio albums, but they are reasonable anyway.
the other downside to this album...and the most important one for me is that it is obvious this is not a single recording from one solitary gig as there are fadeouts in the applause at the end of each track, which means to me that they sat down and listened to several shows and put on the best performance of each track...to me that is not a true live recording!
that said, this is still a reasonable sounding career spanning double set of discs...
allmusic rate this 3/5 or 1.8 on the Music Head Rating System..and on this occasion i agree with allmusic's score

its not an album i would neccessarily purchase, and thankfully i dont need to now anyway...think i'll stick to me "live" dvd as i love watching Angus' stage antics whilst he is playing guitar!

JEFF BECK and the BIG TOWN PLAYBOYS - Crazy Legs....1993

Just got this in the mail from a good friend of mine in Alberta. It immediately went to the CD player ! The volume is turned up and this album is incredible !!!! A tribute album to Gene Vincent (one of John Lennon's idols). This album ROCKs....good old fashion to the point Rock N' Roll/Rockabilly and uptempo all throughout. I love this album ..and as a bonus so does my wife !!!...lol . Jeff Beck played here a couple of months ago and from all accounts he didn't disappoint ! Great axe playing from Jeff and very good r n' r vocals from Mike Sanchez, British blues rock belter. Great rock sax playing included.

A very good rock quintet and an excellent old style rock album reminiscent of the 50s' Sun Record releases !

HUMBLE PIE "natural born bugie-the immediate anthology" cd,2000.

got this one some time ago as i didnt have any Humble Pie...even asked Tiggi his opinion of these guys but said his knowledge was not as good as it should be so he couldnt offer advice...
anyway,
Humble Pie were a so-called late sixties supergroup made up of Small Faces ex-vocalsit Steve Marriott and The Herd's Peter Frampton.
as with most supergroups, the hype of the members far outweighed the chart success of the acts(cream are a classic example).
this is a double cd set containing 34 tracks from both Humble Pie studio albums from 1969, plus outtakes, unreleased and live tracks....

although only gaining 'cult' status in the UK and US, Humble Pie did pave the way for fellow UK blues rockers Led Zepplin to crack the US market, in the early 1970s, they were pretty much 'equals' in terms of audiences on US/UK tours.
interestingly enough, Steve Marriott turned down Jimmy Page's offer to front Led Zepplin in favour of Humble Pie,thus Plant got the Zep gig!
this album does contain a few good solos from guitarist Frampton, but the overall sound is pretty much in line with Marriott's vision for what he wanted the Small Faces to be,unfortunately for him they didnt have the same vision and Marriott departed ways with them, they then became The Faces with Rod Stewart on vocal duties.
not much outstanding on here, but at the same time nothing so bad it would warrant only "*"...so this set comes out at a flatlined "2.0"

A gift from a mate. Trouble getting into this one. Nearest sound I can come up with is Hall & Oates. Never was a
big fan of theirs but their hits did grow on me. Not sure if this ever would. An even split between likes and don't
likes. This is his first solo album. The leadoff track here of Tucker's Daughter was a #1 hit single. Pretty good
song, but wondering what it feels like to have your knee bones slapped to the ground. Sounds painful. Ian is best
known as a member of the Australian group Cold Chisel who were a huge success there. The wave never made it to the
states. This album was also a #1 and got Ian the ARIA best male artist and album of the year awards along with song
of the year for Tucker's Daughter. The guy has certainly made a name for himself down under along with Cold Chisel.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Mr. Rain

Best Track - Tucker's Daughter

Hang me for a sucker
On the plains out of Narrabri
Swingin' a hoe in a CAL-cotton row
Sweatin' on the dangers to me
Bossman's Mr. Tucker
He's a man I don't care to defy
And his only child wicked and wild is seeking my company

She wanna build me up tear me down
Slap my knee bones to the ground
Me and mine are gonna be around
When Tuckers' daughter's a memory

Hot sun is a killer
She'll be waitin' at the end of my line
Taking the shade with a cool lemonade sayin'
Boy I wanna talka to you
Bossmans' only daughter
She ain't his and she'll never be mine
Never be down on a dollar or two
Or told what she's gonna do

She wanna build me up tear me down
Slap my knee bones to the ground
Me and mine are gonna be around
When Tuckers' daughters a memory
Build me up tear me down
I won't kneel 'til the trumpet sounds
And Tuckers' daughter's a memory

People born with all they need
They don't understand
Everything you want don't come from holding out your hand
Tuckers' daughter thinks she sees
A slave at her command
I know you need some time yet baby
But when the time is right
Babe I just ain't your man

sorry you didnt like it MH...personally i dont like Ian Moss as a solo artist prefer him as a member of Cold Chisel, but i do love Tucker's Daughter and Telephone Line from that album,
Moss is a well respected guitarist/writer in this part of the world, even the Young brothers from AC/DC respect him....

regardless of all that, at least you got to hear another artist you otherwise wouldnt have and at least thats only two albums i picked that you havent liked out of about 15 i guess??!!
dont want to make you think you have got to like the Cold Chisel album you now have, but i think you'll like that one...???maybe?????
