So true hopscotch!
What some people might still not know, is also as of recording proceedure today, computers is the most important equipment. As well as Bon jovi,Kiss,Oasis,Beyonce,Celine Dion etc uses computers. With todays technique EVERYTHING is recorded into a computers and afterwards EDITED in the same. So when the drummer of i.e. Oasis is totally ON beat his whole recording, except for lets say 3 places, they wont re-record his whole take, but they will in the computer EDIT and correct his play as it SHOULD have been. Also if he missed one snaredrum, they will just automatically ADD one snare in the computer. Same as volume...length etc. This they do now with EVERY instrument and vocals, all in the search of the perfect recording. Madonna is slightly off tune in a recording, no problem, they fix it in the computer

...Same proceedure as above mention methods of Kraftwerk+....
Will also add that some of the most famous synthesizer players have high education in music-schools. Ryuichi Sakamoto,of Yellow Magic Orchestra (also famous filmcomposer) is even a professor in electric music.

My parents always complained about Video Game music because it's not "Real instruments". It always frustrated me that they closed their mind to beautiful music just because it's computerized music.
On my side, electronic music have always been normal and really enjoyable, being video game music, dance, techno or just electronic in style, like The Prodigy who is my favorite band in the style.

Thanks for the reply. I especially like the above point that you made. Another analogy can be made to album producers. They do much the same thing in the studio. Which is why electronic musicians are often referred to as "producers". After re-reading my last two sentences I realize this is very obvious. But maybe it isn't to some.

In the beginning of the 80s these discussions really started, when i.e. Depeche Mode became a success and had all their drums and some sounds played from a tape recorder while playing live. Many rock artists said they hated artifical music and computers and synthesizers. I remember Johnny Marr, guitarist from The Smiths, said he really HATED synthesizers. Some years later he started a very electronic band called ELECTRONIC (:biggrin1

with Bernard Sumner of New Order(and involving PetShopBoys,Karl Bartos from Kraftwerk etc). And today many rockband uses Synhesizers. (well..back in the 70s both Alice Cooper and The Sweet did!. David Bowies album LOW is one of the groundbreaking albums which sound has influenced the latter pioneers of electronic music. Japan, Ultravox, Duran Duran,Kraftwerk etc etc)
The people who still today is not open for synthetic sounds i guess is really from the old classical 70s rock school?.
Cheers

I like the ability to create music that doesn't fit into a genre, it really pushes the envelop of creativity in my opinion and challenges new thoughts and ways of doing things. Progressive.
