John Lennon, born 1940, would turn 75 today.
A singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist, national treasure and my hero. I played few of his songs today as a tribute to his legacy.

Prior to joining this forum I did not even know this guy existed. There was always this song 'In Spite of Ourselves' or whatever it's called, playing on the radio but I never knew who it was. I am starting to think here's someone to really listen to. He has some amazing stuff.

James “Midge” Ure, OBE was born on this day in Lanarkshire, Scotland. “Midge” is a phonetic representation of ‘Jim’ - said backwards. Best known to me for fronting Ultravox in the early 80’s and also for his association with Visage – he’s had a surprisingly lowkey solo career, in actual fact, (at least, from my perspective, which might be somewhat skewed!) except for his No 1 single in the UK, “If I Was” from The Gift, and one or two other highlights. He has, however, been involved in some high profile music and charity projects – he’s a Band Aid trustee and joined forces with Bob Geldorf to work on Live Aid and related events, writing, performing and producing.

From the Ultravox days, I always liked the title track from Lament – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be0sTokly_w

… and the title track from Vienna which was a brilliant album for its time, IMHO –

David Allan speaks of Steve Goodman in this song whom I like too
and is also a friend of John Prine.
I know you don't like DAC, MH but I love this song and JP, SG, and DAC have a history.
Also written by JP & SG is You Never Even Called Me By My Name which was
made a big hit by DAC Confusedmile:

I don't dislike David's music
I have 3 of his albums I think
love those 2 songs you mentioned plus Longhaired Redneck, Willie Waylon And Me, and Tanya's Would You Lay With Me
He just turned me off when he did that you know what song
I can separate the music from the man
same with Madonna
like her music but not her
