Thanks to you guys I am downloading a few Styx albums as we speak including the above 'Crystal Ball' along with 'The Grand Illusion'. Looking forward to hearing these as I hadnt even heard of the band before! Also special thanks to Crazy Horse for introducing me to the band Sky. I had meant to investigate them ages ago after reading about them in the liner notes of one of John William's compilations. Got their first album queued! Cheers!

Currently on a Blue Mitchell binge but was listening to this rockin' track from Robert Plant's unsung masterpiece the other day as I perused the streets of Glasgow;

Their second release Sky 2 is the one I'd go for. At one stage i had their first three in a vinyl box-set. That's long gone, but Sky 2 is essential IMHO...

2nd listen.

In preparation for seeing them live in a few weeks' time...

&

Slade - Slade in Flame

The band that sparked my interest in music at age nine !!

Glam Rock was what made them famous, but they had so much more going for them. This is the soundtrack to the movie they made about the bitter-sweet nature of fame & success, and they're starting to stretch into more sophisticated song-writing.

Fabulous live act to boot...

Bo Diddley - The Essential Bo Diddley

Compilation of BD's classic early Rock & Roll.

Reminds me of what R&R is all about. Fun & excitement...

Tried to download one at a time from 1-4 and unfortunately all failed so had to settle for a later album called 'Cadmium'. If you know of any reliable links for 2 let me know!

Al Stewart is fast becoming one of my favourite artists. I can see me comparing him to the likes of Neil Young, Weller & Springsteen in the not so distant future.

Pub rock, whatever that is. I guess if ya gotta label something, that's as good as any. Ace was an english band formed in 1972. Lasted for a few years, and Paul Carrack must have been the glue. When he decided to pursue a solo career, the band folded. Paul even went on to bigger and better things, mainly with Squeeze. A one hit wonder, the group had a big hit with How Long off of their first album, but this follow up and its successor, failed to match that popularity. That was it, 3 albums. Some decent songs here, but nothing memorable. It peaked at #153 in the states.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Does It Hurt You

Great song-writer.

Year of The Cat was the big commercial success, but I'd recommend his next release Time Passages

& the previous release Modern Times
