Bio
Dorrough is a Texas rapper who made his debut in 2009 with the minor hit single "Ice Cream Paint Job." Born and raised in Dallas, he first experienced success as a basketball player. He was not only the captain of his team at Lancaster High School; he attended Prairie View A&M University with plans to join the school's basketball team as a walk-on. While attending college, he began releasing underground singles, such as "Do tha Muscle" and "Halle Berry," that were increasingly popular on a regional level. His big break came in 2009 with the release of his debut album, Dorrough Music, on the E1 Music label. The album includes "Ice Cream Paint Job" and "Walk That Walk."
Album Review
Dorrough goes from singles-pimping boss to true album artist on his second set, the well-built and entertaining Get Big. His growth as a lyric writer is notable as the numerous punch lines and boasts are well-placed, but the big win here is his ability to go deeper than before and communicate the ghetto heartache with key tracks like âTrouble.â Still, fans who came here to party in that âIce Cream Paint Jobâ style get massive club tracks like the Nitti-produced title track plus the down-and-dirty "Hood Chick Fetish," which comes with a Yo Gotti guest shot just so things are extra dirty, extra South. A big surprise is the hypnotic bit of tranquility called âM.I.A.,â as it uses the Auto-Tune device not for vocal perfection but for a kind of trippy, spaceman effect youâd expect more from Kid Cudi or others in the backpackers set. A triple threat of closing songs kicks off with âMy Nameâ and its infectious hook plus laugh-out-loud lines (âI can take you back to the Motorola pagerâ), then the ridiculous plus fun âSi Si I Likeâ gives all a taste of a hypothetical Dorrough Tell âEm before âWay Betterâ proves the man can hold his own swaggering alongside Juvenile. Get Big indeed.
