Can't believe allmusic or wiki has nothing on this album. Not even a pic. Had to go to my third source for that. shame shame. Can't be that rare, or bad. The Hollies were among my favorites back in the 60's. They, the Bee Gees or CSN had the best harmonies of any rock group of the day. This album was well after their peak and was the first to not chart in the U.S. in a long time. Same for the U.K. I suppose. Three singles were released but none clicked. My favorite was one of those three, Boulder To Birmingham. This was actually released on a previous Hollies album which I do not have, so I'm glad it was included here. Although it is an Emmylou Harris classic, it is one of the rare occasions, when I can say the cover is as good as the original. Not better, but as good. Just friggin' beautiful, both of them. That chorus line blows me away. I get chills. The song was written by Emmylou after the death of her long time friend Gram Parsons, and you can just feel the heartbreak.

Worst Track - Caracas

Best Track - Boulder To Birmingham

don't wanna hear your love song
I got on this aeroplane just to fly
And i know there's life below me
But all that you can show me
Is the prairie and the sky

And i don't wanna hear a sad story
Full of heartbreak and desire
The last time i felt like this
I was in the wilderness
And the canyon was on fire

And i stood on the mountain
In the night and i watched it burn
I watched it burn, i watched it burn

I would rock my soul
In the bosom of abraham
I would hold my life
In his saving grace
I would walk all the way
From boulder to birmingham
If i thought i could see
I could see your face

Well, you really got me this time
And the hardest part is knowin
I'll survive
I've come to listen for the sound
Of the trucks as they go down
Out on ninety-five
And pretend that it's the ocean
Comin down to wash me clean
To wash me clean
Baby do ya know what i mean

Chorus x3

i just checked out your links as i'd never heard any of these songs, very impressed with 'clown service','hello to romance' and 'boulder to birmingham'. they were a very good group back in the day, and by the sound of this album they were still good after their sales tanked, i saw them live about 18 months ago and considering their ages etc they were a reasonable live act then

The first of a fistful bought at the gig last Friday.

Haven't had a copy of this for prolly 25 years or more, since it wasn't a great favourite of mine at the time.

Listening to it with more developed ears, it's easy to understand why the teenaged Tigster found it a bit impenetrable. It's a much more cerebral record than many of their others, and veers closer to Classical music (or Romantic to be more accurate) than much of the rest of their work.

All instrumental, and definitely some very reflective music.

I now like this album.

Second of the gig purchases.

I've never had a copy of this, and have only heard it once, again more than 25 years ago.

Starts with a largely instrumental suite of tracks based around the four seasons (not the Vivaldi pieces), which similarly to Touch me, are more symphonic sounding than much of their music.

These are followed by a couple of rockier tracks which have some decidedly odd vocals.

Another good album.

Have a friend staying with us this week, and I took the opportunity to introduce him to my new favourite band (temporarily, anyway).

Gave it a bit more welly than usual, and it sounded magnificent...

His candle burned out long, but his legend never will. Looks like album #19 by my count. Elton reached his prime years before this release, but he still managed to throw in some gems. Another Taupin reunion for this one, which never hurt back then. Plus the original band is back. I think this one is better than the previous few. It reached #25 on the U.S. charts and #7 in the U.K. where Elton always scored better, even in the early years. Stupid americans! Three singles came off of here, with the highest charting here being my favorite at #4. The other two I don't care for, Kiss The Bride and I'm Still Standing.

Worst Track - Crystal

Best Track - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues

Don't wish it away
Don't look at it like it's forever
Between you and me
I could honestly say
That things can only get better

And while I'm away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won't be long
Before you and me run
To the place in our hearts
Where we hide

And I guess that's why
They call it the blues
Time on my hands
Could be time spent with you
Laughing like children
Living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that's why
They call it the blues

Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second
Without hesitation
And never forget I'm your man

Without me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself

And I guess that's why
They call it the blues
Time on my hands
Could be time spent with you
Laughing like children
Living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that's why
They call it the blues

Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself

And I guess that's why
They call it the blues
Time on my hands
Could be time spent with you
Laughing like children
Living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that's why
They call it the blues
