OK last one for now. Anyone notice the bicycle in the iris on the front of Floyd's 'Pulse' album. A reference to their song 'Bike'. There's more too!

I obviously pay little attention to album art, cos these are all news to me...

The cover of Roger Water's 'Radio Kaos' is actually the song titles in morse code - easy one to spot.
Another obvious one - but people sometimes miss it. The mirrorball on page 2 of TDB booklet is actually hundreds of small faces. And the CD case spline has the title in braille embossed on it.

It is this kind of attention to detail that made Floyd what they are. This same attention to detail was infused into their recordings. Anyone hear the bubble bursting at the end of 'Welcome to the Machine'? (i.e. the party's over - the bubble has burst). Waters was disillusioned with the whole recording industry at this point. No wonder The Wall was just around the corner.

The double compilation 'A Nice Pair' is filled with visual imagery of cliches or common phrases - A fork in the road, a different kettle of fish, frog in the throat, etc. etc.

One of my favorite covers & one of my favourite albums- a concept album (and a true story) about a Japanese soldier who was stranded on a island for 29 years. He thought the war was still going on. They eventually 'rescued' him and took him back to Japan. He was placed in a nursing home and hailed as a hero. On his birthday they made a cake in the shape of the island he had been stranded on. Shortly after this he disappeared. He was spotted sailing out of the harbour on a small boat. He simply could not live in the 'civilised' world after living in isolation for so long. Hence the 'empty suit' on the cover. There are no 'hidden' images or trickery on this cover but it's simplicity is what I really like about it. Some of the guitar work is outstanding as well - like the use of a slide to simulate bullets flying around. The solo on 'Drafted' is just awesome.

Another album cover artist I like. Mr Marsh's work is quite brilliant. He did all the Talk Talk album covers.
