![]() Paul McCartney mccartney II 1980 vinyl and cd ok, im a huge Macca fan, but i still cant work this album out even after 31yrs, and i wasnt sure whether to put it in 'electronic', 'alternative' or this section???, and i dont like not knowing where it fits in the scheme of things it was recorded in Macca's home studio in late 79-early 1980,it was never meant to be an album as it was just Paul playing around with new equipment and effects machines he had purchased,he was just getting the feel of it...that is until he played some of it to Ringo one night and he said 'is that you're latest record?', Paul's reply was 'i guess it is'...according to interviews ive seen with McCartney since. a lot of the music on it sounds outdated now, horrible drums and what we'd consider antiquated synths, but in its day it was fresh and exciting. there are however, in amongst it two really good songs 'one of these days' and 'waterfalls',both could have fitted neatly on any Beatle album, for all their beauty though, they seem unfinished(had they have been completed properly they would have got ***each!), 'coming up' is a pleasant enough tune, the video with Paul playing the parts of the 'plastic mac' band probably helped it sell more than it should have. 'summers day song' is also pleasant enough to listen to. there are two instrumentals here: 'front parlour' is nothing more than elevator music, 'frozen jap' is a bit more upbeat but is too repeatative. there is several so-called 'experimental' tracks here, 'temporary secretary' isnt too bad lyrically but the hideous synths let it down. 'bogey music' and 'darkroom' are also ok in the scheme of the album, but i doubt they would be on anyones 'best of' mccartney lists. im not sure how the rating will come out on this one yet,nor do i have any clue as to guess what iy is roughly worth, as i said, its a strange album, i dont play it more than once every couple of years, and only then when i feel im in the mood for it, back then, in 1980ish, Paul was still popular and had a good name for making fine albums, had it have been released now i doubt it would make the top 50 anywhere in the world,as it stands though, the album reached #7 AUST #1 UK and #3 stateside. three singles were released from this album 'coming up' #2 AUST,#2 UK, and the live version which was the UK b'side #1US. 'waterfalls' #9 AUST & UK with no entry in US charts, 'temporary secretary' #27 AUST & no entry in UK/US charts. tracks: 1.coming up** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDBkySeyiDo video(because it is good) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRbFpveuLQM live 2.temporary secretary** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehqKpPmVcK4 audio 3.on the way** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUz7_dW-FUo audio 4.waterfalls** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYstxLoOn...re=related video 5.nobody knows** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mtkv3xS7hk audio 6.front parlour* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVE0qmOfO-A audio 7.summers day song** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzolxqOnVqw audio to thomas the tank engine video 8.frozen jap* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b-TplCXNx4 audio 9.bogey music** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9y6TJ_4IOo audio 10.darkroom** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lnu13hRDwk audio 11.one of these days** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBMPqqwNOr4 audio 3s=0 2s=9 1s=2 rating: 1.8 i guess that means i like it?!

^ That's weird I was just reading up on this album earlier and once I saw the phrase "much of the album relies heavily on synthesisers and studio experimentation" I kind of backed off! I'm checking out the 'Tug Of War' album later on tonight.
Also, 'hideous synths' ruined many, many good and potentially great 80s records. Eric Clapton's 'Behind The Sun' is a good example of this and also why Phil Collins shouldn't be allowed to produce other folks records. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tesla- Five Man Acoustical Jam (1990) ![]() Currently listening to this great album by American metal band Tesla. Recorded in 1990, it predates the 'unplugged' craze which was to follow in the 1990s. Amongst re-workings of their previously heavy material, there are a few covers, one being a Beatles song called 'We Can Work It Out' which sounds vaguely familiar! All in all, a brilliant album. His mid 90s material is excellent as is his playing. Also, his version of 'Good Morning Little Schoolgirl' from the above is the best I've ever heard. Neither of these videos are from the above album but capture the energy just as well. ![]() The first effort as a group after Pauls two solo albums. Including wife Linda as part of the band, Denny Laine of the Moody Blues and Denny Seiwell who Paul had worked with on Ram, on drums. After a rocky start on the first two tracks, it picks up ok. Just the titles on those first two, pretty much describe them for me. Only the title track meets my expectations. The bands formation was announced in November and the album was released in December. A lukewarm reception on its release and a subpar album for sure, considering the source. The album did eventually go gold here with a #10 placing on the charts. The homeland was about the same at #11 and a #3 down under. The album was re-released in 1993 with additional tracks that may have improved it's grade for me, but those are not on this original. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Mumbo Best Track - Wild Life The world "wild" applies to the words "you" and "me".
While take a walk thru an African park one day,
I saw a sign say, "The animals have the right of way". Wild life, whatever happened to,
Wild life, the animals in the zoo? We're breathing a lot,
a lot of political nonsense in the air. You're making it hard for the people who live in there.
You're moving so fast, but, baby, you know not where. Wild life, (wild life), what's gonna happen to Wild life, (wild life), the animals in the zoo? You'd better stop, there's animals ev'rywhere,
And man is the top, an animal too, And, man, you just got to care. Wild life, what's gonna happen to,
Wild life, the animals in the zoo? You're breathing a lot of polical nonsense in the air.
Wild life, (wild life), what's gonna happen to
(what's gonna happen to) (what's gonna happen to) Wild life, (wild life), the animals in the zoo? (what's gonna happen to) (what's gonna happen to) Wild life, what ever happened to? i havent played this one for a few years now....cant remember liking it,at least not a 1.9 rating??
i guess i'll have to drag it out and pop it on this week to re-assess it its a shame theres no live footage of these songs though. LOL, thanks for the Aussie chart placing LOL 9th Jan 2011: sorry MH, could only get "wildlife" to 1.6 which still comes in as 'like', and 0.3 difference isnt that much of a difference
