Her fourth album and the last on Apple. Maybe they figured it out. Says this is the first album where she took complete control. I don't believe it, but whatever. The album is dedicated to "the sisters who died in pain and sorrow for being unable to survive in a male society." Guess we see where this is going. I believe she and John were seperated during this period. Anything that made a like rating here, was either because of the lyrics or the music, never the singing. One exception may be that last song on the album, in which she sounds rather seductive. Uh oh, was that chauvanistic? Oh well, no more so than the song itself, in the reverse, I suppose. The album never touched the charts. Included a bonus clip here which I stumbled across. A live performance by John & Yoko on the Dick Cavett show performing Woman Is The Nigger Of The World. Check out Yoko's performance, amazing talent. This is off of the 1972 Sometime In New York City album which I do not own but wish I did.

Another of my new year purchases. Won't take much to push this into the love area. Their third album and first for me, although I did hear the last one. Washington state band formed in 2004. Been touring in support of this by opening for Pearl Jam. Not much like them in my opinion. Love Ben Bridwells vocals. He hands those off on a couple of tracks which are not as good. Nothing bad here though. A blend of a lot of styles fit together nicely. The album has been their most succesful commercialy, reaching #7 in the states, #21 in the U.K. and #19 in Australia, and has received a grammy nomination for best alternative album.

Another from the gentler end of the Cave spectrum, from 1990.

As usual, brilliantly written Noirish songs, flawlessly delivered. This guy is someone I've yet to catch live, and I'll be disappointed if I don't manage it at some stage.

Allmusic 4/5 stars.

i dont have this album yet,but i believe it you are correct in it being good.

if and when you get the chance to see him live, take the opportunity to do so, u wont be dissapointed, i guarentee it, i have seen NC twice and am going to see Grinderman in a few weeks at one of our summer festivals.

im too hot in this 40C heat to be bothered, but here i go anyway!

Icehouse were originally called "the flowers" for their first album and first four singles, however when their Australian record company took them to the internationally market there was already a band known in several countries by that name, thus the name change to "icehouse".
this was the first of four reasonably good albums by Iva Davies and Co under the name Icehouse.
this album was retitled "love in motion" in the UK, and both UK and US had slight variations to this track listing, the cd does contain all variations and contains seventeen tracks in all,which includes b-sides and remixes.
Iva Davies vocals bear more than a passing resemblance to Bryan Ferry and David Bowie and some of the musical content has shades of The Cars.
the tracks themselves,for the most part, have a smooth quality to those of Roxy Music's recordings like Avalon.
overall, its a pleasant album to listen to, nothing too bad about it or great either...just pleasant.

Originally recommended to me by Debbie at work, who's now been gone for some months. Music Head mentioned this ages ago also.

The price finally dropped on Amazon, so...

High quality mid-Atlantic Alt-Folk. This has a confidence about it which is pretty intoxicating. Most of the band sing, so it's not yet possible to pick which one's which, but at least one of them has a great voice, and there are some fine harmonies on display.

Allmusic didn't much like this, which proves even my trusted bible-site is sometimes fallible.

Allmusic 3/5 stars.
