Never really enjoyed this before, but it certainly did the trick this time.

None of the material here would be out of place on Stones albums, but the different musical pallette delivered by his collaborators (including Joe Perry, Pete Townshend, Bono, Lenny Kravitz, & Wyclef Jean) works very nicely indeed.

Once again, an album that AllMusic has panned gets a thumbs-up from me.

AllMusic 3/5 stars.

i know exactly what you mean, Chris' songs are very infectious, and he's very good live also, manages to throw in a couple of old rock cover versions, last time i saw him he covered Suspicious Minds & Pretty Woman

ELVIS "elvis is back" 1960. original gatefold vinyl album, cd #2 US, #1 UK.

this was Elvis' first record after leaving behind "sgt.presley" earlier in the year. overall, the album shows a more mature sounding Elvis than the one who was drafted into the Army in 1958....and gives us hints in quality of material of what could have been if Col.Parker hadnt been so money hungry and wanted him to make stupid films,singing songs like "old macdonald" and "theres no room to rhumba in a sports car" etc for the remainder of the decade, but it was not to be, and thats the way it is.

all up Elvis recorded 19 songs in his first sessions after leaving the Army, twelve of them feature here, the others were Stuck On You, Fame And Fortune, Its Now Or Never, A Mess Of Blues, Are You Lonesome Tonight?, I Gotta Know & Surrender....its an impressive list of some of the greatest songs of the 1960s.

back to the album:
theres a great mix of Rock, Blues, Jazz, Pop, and a couple of Gospel tinged tracks here, and they all show a more mature sounding Elvis, there were no singles off this album,although "girl of my best friend" was issued as a single in the UK in 1974 and reached the top 10 over there. mind you,Elvis didnt need to release any singles from here as the other session tracks proved to be huge singles in their own right all over the world.
all in all, this is one album of Elvis' that everyone should own, and with the recent re-release on cd with the bonus tracks and a further 17 tracks from the follow up album "something for everybody"...you couldnt go far wrong.
